UPDATE: Oberstown talks at the WRC have produced a welcome outcome, with a clear roadmap.

This was always about safety. Safety of the staff and safety of the minors on the campus.

Well done to the members! A long-standing dispute, hard fought for by Oberstown workers.

Members will be balloted on the proposals today, and depending on the results, industrial action may be paused.

If this happens, it will be paused until the week of the 28th of September. This will be to give the Department of Public Expenditure under Minister Jack Chambers time to confirm that the business case is accepted.

In Fórsa, there are 90,000 public sector members.

And our demands are reasonable – fair pay, respect, protect jobs and protect public services.

Safe Staffing Crisis: Strikes by Oberstown members are taking place because members want a lasting solution, for the safety of both the children and staff.

Members protested yesterday at Department of Children, Disability and Equality over safe staffing. This is the third in a series of work stoppages.

Talks around safe staffing and conditions have broken down, with no representative of the DCDE there. But as always, we are open to engagement when there are real, long term solutions on the table.
