Northwest Rowing Club IRL

Things we only used to hear about in the news are now happening right on our doorstep. 😡

Clubs simply can’t keep all of their equipment locked securely inside boathouses at all times, and in today’s world, you would think that almost every public area is monitored in some way.

I really hope the group responsible is identified and held accountable. Damaging equipment belonging to a sports club doesn’t just hurt the club — it affects athletes, volunteers and the whole community who work hard to keep these organisations going.

If it’s any help to you guys, Northwest Rowing Club would be happy to voluntarily offer to repair the outer skin of the hull, provided the damage isn’t structural.

Hopefully the boat can be back on the water soon. 🚣

🏆🚣‍♀️ NORTHWEST ROWING CLUB — CARRICK-ON-SHANNON REGATTA 2026 🚣‍♂️🏆

As expected, and without fail, the event was run brilliantly by Carrick-on-Shannon Rowing Club. 👏

Firstly, we would like to send a huge thank you to our hosts for lending us a boat that allowed Northwest Rowing Club to compete in the Men’s Club 4x+ category.

This was a fantastic statement of fair play and true sporting spirit, especially as we raced side-by-side with Carrick’s own crew in what was possibly the closest race of the day — with all crews crossing the finish line within ONE SECOND! 🔥🚣‍♂️

And what a day it turned out to be for Northwest!

💙🤍EVERY SINGLE NORTHWEST ROWER CAME HOME WITH A GOLD MEDAL — NO EXCEPTIONS! 🥇

For a club that is just about to celebrate its first birthday, this is something truly extraordinary and a huge reflection of the work being put in by our athletes, coaches, committee, parents and everyone supporting our young club.

There was plenty of excitement on the banks of the River Shannon near the finish line, where the Northwest supporters were “beeping” one win after another! 📣🥇🥇🥇

But beyond the medals, what made the day special was the friendly, welcoming and inclusive atmosphere created by the hard work of Carrick’s volunteers and club members.

That is what rowing should be about — competition on the water, friendship and respect off it. 🤝🚣‍♀️

A massive THANK YOU to Carrick-on-Shannon Rowing Club once again for a fantastic regatta, the hospitality and the sporting gesture of lending us a boat.

80 Irish rowers. Three countries. One incredible weekend.

Racing is underway today at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Duisburg, Germany, with Ireland's athletes taking to the water. Ireland crews will also compete this weekend at the Coupe de la Jeunesse in Switzerland and the Home International Rowing Regatta in England.

Congratulations to every athlete selected, and thank you to the coaches, support staff, volunteers and families who have helped make this possible.

Today we remember Olaf Tufte, a true giant of our Olympic sport.

His determination, humility, and relentless work ethic inspired rowers across the world, including many of us at Northwest Rowing Club. He showed that greatness is built through consistency, resilience, and passion for rowing.

Thank you for the inspiration you gave to generations of athletes.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and the Norwegian rowing community.

Rest in peace, Olaf.
