🌟Top 5 Labour Prep Exercises

Throughout your pregnancy, it is vital to keep the body mobile in order to prepare the body for labour and to encourage an easier birth.

In the lead up to your due date, I highly recommend following these 5 exercises, particularly in the last few weeks of your pregnancy. These will help prepare the body for childbirth. It is also a great way to encourage an optimal birthing position for the baby and help with your recovery.

My husband laughed at me while I was in labour, saying I looked like I was warming up for a marathon...headphones in, doing my squats and lunges in the maternity unit while the contractions came and went!
But quite often, childbirth can be compared to running a marathon (don't worry ladies I know its not the same thing!) They both demand immense physical endurance and they deplete your energy reserves.

However, nobody would even think twice about doing a marathon without being properly prepared. So why would we treat giving birth any different?

Of course, not every pregnancy is the same and not all women are able to do these exercises; particularly if you have a low lying placenta, at risk of a preterm labour or have other medical factors; but for the majority of women, these exercises are safe and massively beneficial for you and your baby.

Always consult with your healthcare professional and adapt the type and intensity of the exercises to suit you and always listen to your body.

1. Childpose Rocks x 12
2. Deep Squat & Sways x 12
3. Kneeling Lunge & Knee Push x 8/8
4. Curb Walking x 12/12
5. Hip Sways & Circles x 12/12

🚶‍♀️Early Postnatal Exercise 🚶‍♀️

This time round I have a few extra passengers!

Please remember that everyone is going to have different pregnancy & birthing experiences and you must adapt everything to suit yourself.

Yes, there will be guidelines to follow, but always listen to your body and ask your health specialist if you have any doubts.

I myself had three different experiences during the birth of our three children. Although I had good experiences during each of the pregnancies, and even though each of the births where natural, I still had different experiences and so I will/had adapted my postnatal exercise regime accordingly.

Please note that you must also take other things into consideration. For example; are you breastfeeding or bottle feeding? Breast feeding can and will use up a lot of your energy. Make sure to adapt accordingly.
