🇮🇪 Best wishes to Eamonn Tracey & John Whelan 🇮🇪

Roscommon Ploughing would like to wish Eamonn Tracey of Carlow and John Whelan of Wexford the very best of luck as they represent Ireland at the World Ploughing Championships in Croatia on 4th and 5th September.

Both are well established on the international stage, with an outstanding record of achievement at World level. Eamonn is a six-time World Champion, while John is a four-time World Champion — a remarkable record for both competitors.

As they prepare to compete once again among the very best in the world, we wish Eamonn and John every success and hope they have a competition to be proud of.

The Irish team will also be supported in Croatia by Judge Harry Mallon and Coach Gary Simms both from Donegal Ploughing Association, who will play their part in supporting the Irish competitors throughout the competition.

Huge congratulations to Jer Coakley on winning 1st place in Switzerland at European ploughing Championships 2026🏆🇮🇪 A fantastic achievement and a testament to your skill, dedication and hard work.

A special congratulations also to Dan Donnelly on an outstanding 4th-place finish. Just missing out on the podium, but 4th place at European level is a remarkable achievement. Dan represented Ireland with great pride, skill and distinction. 👏🇮🇪

Well done to Jer, Dan, Enda and Kieran — you have done Ireland proud once again on the European stage. 🇮🇪☘️

We hope you all enjoyed the experience and made some great memories along the way. Congratulations to you all on an excellent achievement and a wonderful representation of Irish ploughing! 🏆🇮🇪☘️

🌾 A Great Day with Colmcille Ploughing Association 🌾

A huge thank you to Colmcille Ploughing Association for a fantastic, fun-filled day of ploughing, friendship and entertainment. We really appreciated the warm hospitality and welcome.

Despite the overcast skies, it was a lovely warm day and a great atmosphere all round. 🌾

A big well done to our Roscommon competitors:

👏 Pauline Lavin, Senior Ladies Loy Digger, and Rachel O’Grady, Junior Ladies Loy Digger — both put in a great dig despite difficult ground conditions. 👏 Martina Beirne gave a very promising loy dig. Well done Martina, and thanks to coach John Boland.

👏 Oisín Connolly, our Novice competitor, did a great job. Thanks to coach John Hanley, Killian Whyte for his support, and our ever-faithful sponsor Kenneth Gannon of Gannon Agri for the transport and continued support.

❤️ A very special moment was seeing the daughter and granddaughter of the late Michael McKeon, Hill, Aughnacliffe, present a memorial cup to Colmcille Ploughing Association in his honour.

Michael served as President of both Longford and Colmcille Ploughing Associations and represented Ireland as a Loy Digger. It was wonderful to see his contribution and legacy recognised by his family and the ploughing community. A fitting tribute to a man who helped keep our traditions alive for future generations.

Well done to everyone involved, and thank you again to Colmcille Ploughing & Family Fun Day. for a brilliant day. 🌾👏

🚜 De Courcey Competition Ploughing Training Day – Kilbrittain

A sincere thank you to the De Courcey Classic & Vintage Club and everyone involved in Saturday's Competition Ploughing Training Day at Ariteige, Kilbrittain, for a fantastic day.

It was particularly special to see Martina travel from Roscommon to take part, and great credit is due to the organisers and hosts for making her feel so welcome and encouraging her participation.

The day highlighted something very positive about what these events can offer. The invitation was openly shared, the atmosphere was welcoming and people were encouraged to come along, learn and have a go. For anyone who has spent years around ploughing through supporting, watching or helping on the organisational side, opportunities like this can make the difference between simply being there and actually getting involved.

The opportunity to get involved in horse ploughing was a particular highlight, with people generously sharing their knowledge and experience and making participation feel very accessible.

It was also great to see Laoise O'Driscoll from West Cork, last year's All-Ireland Novice Reversible winner, taking part. The growing participation of young women across the different ploughing classes is very encouraging and shows real promise for the future of the sport.

For Roscommon, it was great to see one of our own take the opportunity to travel, participate and experience another side of the sport. Hopefully it will encourage others who may normally find themselves on the sidelines to take that step and get involved when opportunities arise.

Sincere thanks to the De Courcey Classic & Vintage Club and everyone who contributed to making the day so welcoming, generous and encouraging.
