The QSD Ceramics Workshop was successfully held on 20 June 2026.

It was a quiet afternoon of carving and painting, as participants designed their own coasters inspired by the mosaic tiles of Hong Kong's MTR stations. Beyond the craft, the session offered a glimpse into the cultural stories behind these familiar station designs — a small but meaningful way to connect with the city's heritage.

The workshop also provided a relaxed setting for QSD professionals to interact and network outside the usual work environment. We appreciate the genuine participation and interest from everyone who joined.

Special thanks go to our QSD Social Event Committee members, Amee Tong and Ling Kong, for their organisation of this session.

We hope to see you at future events.

CPD: Using Public Procurement: Exploring the Impact of a Government‐Led Building Equality Policy in the tendering and contract management practice (12 June 2026)

Tonight, the HKIS QSD CPD Sub-Committee hosted an incredibly insightful seminar addressing how public procurement is increasingly utilized as a powerful mechanism for social change. The session bridged the gap between social policy and everyday surveying workflows.

Professor Sarah Holdsworth, she is from the School of Property, Construction and Project Management at RMIT University. As a leading international voice on gender equity, workplace culture, and inclusion in the built environment, Professor Sarah Holdsworth shared her invaluable research, which has directly shaped policies like the Victorian State Government’s Women in Construction Strategy.

During the session, Professor Sarah Holdsworth explored how government-led equality initiatives transform from high-level ideals into strict tendering requirements and contract compliance metrics. The discussion highlighted a crucial shift for Quantity Surveyors: understanding how social equity metrics are reshaping bid evaluations, risk management, and the auditing of contract deliverables. Professor Holdsworth's deep insights into navigating the construction industry's structural challenges provided an excellent roadmap for our professionals as global procurement standards continue to evolve.

Sr Beverly Yau, Council Member of the HKIS QSD cm Vice-Chairperson of the HKIS QSD CPD Sub-Committee presented a certificate of appreciation to Professor Sarah Holdsworth for her contribution.

The HKIS QSD CPD Sub-Committee extends its sincere gratitude to Professor Sarah Holdsworth and Professor Peter S.P. Wong for sharing their profound expertise, and to all participants who contributed to the Q&A session.
