POLICE CRICKET CLUB CROWNED CHAMPIONS AFTER IMPRESSIVE T20-STYLE BLITZ

Police Cricket Club turned in a dominant performance to capture the championship, producing two impressive victories, including a thrilling final against North Soesdyke.

POLICE CRUISE PAST MALTEENOES

In their opening game, Police lost the toss and were sent in to bat first. They responded with an imposing 152-4 from their 10 overs.

K. Savory led the charge with a superb 48 from 24 balls, while Kevon Boodie contributed 17 from 8 balls. The pair put together an excellent opening partnership of 87 runs to give Police a strong platform.

Dilon Heyliger added a quick-fire 25 from 10 balls, while Dwain Dick smashed 24 from just 7 deliveries to propel Police to their formidable total.

Malteenoes fought hard in the chase but could only manage 132-7 from their 10 overs, handing Police a convincing 20-run victory.

With the ball, Ivor Trotz was impressive, finishing with 3-24 from 2 overs, while Kelvin Leitch claimed 2-17 from 2 overs.

Leitch also accounted for the hard-hitting Shawn Vantull.

Antony Adams chipped in with an excellent 2-16 from 2 overs as Police completed a well-earned victory.

THE FINAL: POLICE VS NORTH SOESDYKE

The championship final was reduced to a fast-paced five-over affair, with Police winning the toss and electing to bat first.

Police once again came out firing, posting an impressive 91-3 from their 5 overs.

Kemol Savory was the star with the bat, blasting 39 from just 13 balls. Kevon Boodie added 20 from 8 balls, while Dilon Heyliger chipped in with 15 from 6 balls.

For North Soesdyke, former national player Christopher Barnwell picked up 1-17 from his solitary over.

In reply, North Soesdyke battled gamely but finished on 78-7 from their 5 overs, leaving Police as champions.

Police captain Antony Adams led from the front with the ball, taking 2-7 from 1 over. Kelvin Leitch continued his excellent tournament with 1-5 from 1 over, while Ivor Trotz also claimed a wicket.

TOURNAMENT AWARDS

Police’s outstanding campaign was capped off with two individual awards.

Guyana Under-19 spinner Gilbert Griffith produced a player of the match performance in the final, grabbing 3/3 to lead Berbice Educational Institute to a commanding win.

Former Guyana Under-19 and Berbice Senior all-rounder Nigel Deodat produced an exciting all-round performance as Tucber Park defeated Police Sports Club by 16 runs in a competitive warm up match.

At the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary, Tucber Park batted first and posted 183 all out in 36.1 overs. Nigel Deodat led the way with a composed 54 off 66 balls, while Kevin Kisten contributed a valuable 51 off 60 balls. Garfield Benjamin added 33 off 34 balls to help Tucber Park reach a competitive total.

Police Sports Club’s bowlers were led by Antony Adams, who finished with 4-28, while Shane Prince and Dwain Dick claimed two wickets each.

In reply, Police Sports Club were bowled out for 167 in 28.5 overs, falling 16 runs short. V. Williams top-scored with 38 off 53 balls, followed by K. Ramkarran with 29 off 20 and Kemol Savory with 22 off 24.

Tucber Park’s bowling attack delivered when it mattered most. Nigel Deodat capped an outstanding individual performance with 4-32, while Zeynul Ramsammy claimed 3-42 and Micah Amsterdam took 1-20.
