A MESSAGE FROM THE AMBASSADOR

ON THE 128TH ANNIVERSARY OF PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE

My warmest greetings to my fellow Filipinos and to the friendly people of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea as we commemorate the 128th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence.

Every June 12th, we pause to honor the courage, unity, and supreme sacrifices of our forefathers who fought for the freedom we enjoy today. Their legacy is a sovereign, democratic Philippines defined by the enduring resilience and courageous spirit of its people.

Today, that same spirit of heroism is carried forward by our modern-day heroes. To our dear kababayans here in Papua New Guinea, you are the living embodiment of our heritage through your professionalism and dedication to support your families back home and contribute significantly to the economic and social fabric of PNG.

On this auspicious occasion, the Philippine Embassy also extends its profound gratitude to the Government and the people of Papua New Guinea. As close maritime neighbors sharing the Pacific, our two nations enjoy deeply rooted bilateral relations built on mutual respect, shared values, and growing economic cooperation strengthened by the signing of an agreement on fisheries cooperation during the recent Melanesian Oceans Summit at the APEC Haus as well as ongoing discussions in the field of health cooperation, medical tourism, and agriculture.

As we raise our flag today, let us look to the future with renewed optimism. Let us remain united in our commitment to nation-building, both in our beloved homeland and here in the community we have come to call our second home.

ON 19 JUNE 1861, OUR NATIONAL HERO, DR. JOSE RIZAL WAS BORN.

Jose Rizal viewed power not as a tool for domination but as an instrument of service and reform. He believed that true power reside in education, unity and moral integrity rather than violence or absolute authority.

In his writings, he emphasized the power of moral integrity in eradicating corruption. He believed that power without morality is destructive.

In strongly criticizing the abuses of the colonial officials and power holders, he emphasized that true leadership and authority require a firm commitment to justice, civic virtue, and the welfare of the people.

May the ideals of Dr. Jose Rizal continue to serve as reminders and lessons for all of us Filipinos wherever we are in the world today.
