Every time Real Madrid win and I see different players on the scoresheet, it honestly makes me wonder why it took so long for Florentino Pérez to sack Xabi Alonso. That dude had a section of the fanbase especially the “tourist fans" believing that Kylian Mbappé was the only player capable of scoring goals for Real Madrid.

Now we’re seeing the complete opposite. Players all over the pitch are contributing again. Just look at Fede Valverde, scoring four goals in a single week and doing it in back to back games. Ironically, this is the same player Xabi tried to convince his "tourists fans" he wasn’t effective enough in midfield. At one point, some of those same "tourist fans" even started booing him when Xabi was finally sacked.

I’ll be honest: when Álvaro Arbeloa was a player for Real Madrid, he was never one of my favorites. His defensive style didn’t always impress me. But as a manager, I have to give him credit, he’s doing an excellent job. He’s brought balance back to the team, restored confidence to several players, and most importantly he’s trusting the academy again. Even if Madrid somehow finish the season without a trophy (God forbid), I would still like Pérez to seriously consider giving Arbeloa the job permanently next season.

One of the most refreshing things about this team right now is seeing academy players trusted in crucial matches and still delivering results. That hasn’t happened consistently in years. It shows a coach who believes in the club’s identity rather than relying on a single superstar system.

And then there’s Thiago Pitarch. The kid looks like an absolute gem. Every opportunity Arbeloa gives him, he repays it with composure and quality. Performances like his might even convince Pérez that there’s no need to break the bank for a new midfielder next season.

It was a very good performance overall. Now the focus shifts to finishing the job at the Etihad Stadium in England against Manchester City.
