Match Report:
Woodbridge Town U23 3–2 AFC Pegasus U23
AFC Pegasus U23 were the visitors to the Homestyle UK Ground, with the two sides meeting in the league for the first time. The sides had previously faced each other in a pre-season friendly last season.
Asemota came into the starting XI for his Woodbridge debut, while the starting side remained fairly unchanged. Duro and Mohsen were added to the squad, while Wilcox made a welcome return and went straight into the starting XI.
Before kick-off, both sides observed a minute’s silence in loving memory of Noah Woods.
Both teams struggled to settle into the game during the opening stages. After three minutes, Miguel delivered a cross which found Wilcox, but his lay-off was just wide of the intended target. A minute later, a loose pass in midfield was picked up by a Pegasus midfielder, forcing Wilding into an early save.
On six minutes, Cameron found Southgate, who turned well before firing straight at the goalkeeper.
Hunt was cautioned on eight minutes for an unfair challenge before, Dines Ferrarge whipped a cross towards the back post, but Southgate’s glancing header drifted just wide.
On 17 minutes, Wilcox jinxed his way through the Pegasus defence but couldn’t keep his effort down, firing high and wide.
Pegasus threatened on 26 minutes as their winger cut inside but couldn’t find the target.
Woodbridge were forced into their first change on the half-hour mark, with Wilcox unable to continue and Duro coming on in his place.
Five minutes later, Hunt found Cameron on the edge of the box, but his effort went narrowly wide.
The Woodpeckers finally broke the deadlock on 37 minutes. A quick corner from Dines Ferrarge found Cameron, who poked the ball towards goal and saw his effort go in via the underside of the bar to make it 1-0.
Before the restart, another change was required, with Simbai unable to continue and Thompson taking his place.
Cameron then headed over from another corner as Woodbridge looked to double their advantage.
Pegasus responded strongly and went searching for an equaliser. A foul on Hunt around halfway went unpunished, allowing Pegasus to break forward and force another save from Wilding. The rebound fell to the winger, but he could only smash his follow-up wide of the post.
Half-time arrived with Woodbridge holding a 1-0 lead, although it hadn’t been quite the performance of previous weeks.
The Woodpeckers looked to find a second after the restart, but it was Pegasus who struck next.
Ten minutes into the second half, the visitors won the ball in midfield and their midfielder got a decent strike away which sailed into the net to level the scores at 1-1.
Five minutes later, Page replaced Hunt.
Two minutes after the change, a Pegasus centre-back tripped over the ball, with it falling kindly to Thompson. However, with a great opportunity in front of him, he dragged his effort wide.
Pegasus then completed the turnaround eight minutes later.
The ball was won around halfway and played forward to their striker, who got a shot away which appeared to be heading straight at Wilding. Somehow, the ball found its way into the back of the net to give the visitors a 1-2 lead, sparking jubilant scenes in the Pegasus dugout.
Three minutes later, Aldous produced an excellent piece of defending to come across and clear, but unfortunately pulled up with an injury. Mohsen replaced him, while Clarke also came on for Southgate.
The Woodpeckers continued to push and, ten minutes later, were level.
Excellent work from Page saw him square the ball across the box, with Dines Ferrarge making no mistake as he smashed the ball home to make it 2-2.
And six minutes later, the comeback was complete.
Some excellent play from Miguel saw him find Clarke, who beat his man before driving into the box. He then unleashed a powerful effort high and hard into the near post to put Woodbridge back in front at 3-2.
The turnaround sparked more jubilant scenes, this time in the home dugout, as Woodbridge were rewarded for being the better side for large parts of the game.
There was a brief flashpoint five minutes later as Southgate was adjudged to have fouled a Pegasus midfielder. The player then appeared to kick out at Southgate, leading to a coming together between the two sides. Once things had calmed down, Mohsen received a caution, while the Pegasus player went unpunished.
Woodbridge had further chances to put the game beyond doubt. A Hillebrandt clearance found Thompson in behind the Pegasus defence, but he couldn’t find the finish.
The final whistle soon followed, confirming a hard-fought 3-2 victory for the Woodpeckers.
A strong response after falling 2-1 behind, with Woodbridge showing plenty of character to turn the game around and claim all three points.

A superb debut from Asemota. Well controlled throughout, composed in possession and displaying a great range of passing. A very promising first outing in Woodbridge colours.
