Emotional and practical Post natal support for any new mums in the Surrey and Sussex area

I am a postnatal doula working in the Surrey and Sussex areas in South East England. I have trained in baby wearing, mindful breast feeding, mothers mental health, and postnatal massage. I run a check in service as well as minimum three hour sessions where I support a new mother post birth, signposting, reassuring and nurturing her so she can put her well-being first and bond with baby in a safe space. I am also a developing doula companion to new doulas and the Doula Uk Guildford rep.

Apparently there is still a face behind this profile, so I thought I’d pop on and show it!

It’s been a while since I’ve actually talked on here, and after a lovely/busy/slightly chaotic summer of working, mothering, juggling all the things and occasionally wondering what day it is, it felt like a good time to reconnect.

I’ve also FINALLY managed to get some updates onto my website (it’s never too late right?!) There are now some new resources available to download:

🥄 Practical Weaning Support — straightforward, useful help for navigating the wonderfully messy world of starting solids.

💗 Mumma Unfiltered: Navigating Postpartum with Illness or Cancer — something particularly close to my heart, offering honest, practical support when new motherhood is happening alongside illness, treatment or recovery.

And there’s more in the pipe line, including a bottle feeding resource currently bubbling away in the background

I want to keep creating resources that are actually useful, that new parents and families can use at home independently, not another 47-page document to download, save somewhere and never look at again

So have a nose, download what might help, send them to a mum who might need them and PLEASE tell me what you think.
What would you like me to create next?

And hello again 👋🏻 It’s nice to be back on your screen rather than hiding behind a carousel, even if it did take 653 takes!

SELF CARE ✨ | The Space Between

September always feels like a little space between for me

Kids head back to school, familiar routines return, and summer loosens its grip. Did you know, in the old Celtic calendar, this is a threshold season? It’s no longer quite summer, but not yet autumn. So maybe we can just notice the changes rather than rush into the next thing.

My natural response to September is always to get organised, but this year, I’m really trying to start slowing down and encourage my clients to do the same, by looking back at the summer we have just had; The ordinary days, the lovely bits, the difficult bits, the memories made without even realising they were becoming memories.

Wherever you are in motherhood though, your season may look completely different.
Perhaps you’re expecting a baby and beginning to turn inwards, nesting and preparing your home and heart or maybe you’ve recently discovered you’re pregnant and September marks the beginning of a completely new chapter.Perhaps you’re waving children through school gates for the first time and finding a little more space for yourself again.

This week’s Space Between card is SELF CARE.
Just a reminder to notice what you need as the season begins to shift.

Go gently into September. 🍂

These affirmation cards are available to buy on my website / link in usual spot! X

My favourite spot this week, and probably where I’ve spent most of this trip, writing.

Finally, there has been something about having actual space this summer that has got me writing properly again. Less procrastinating, less overthinking whether something is good enough, and just getting the words down.
Turns out all I needed was a Tuscan hillside, a shady tree and absolutely nobody asking me what’s for dinner!!

Completely achievable to recreate at home, obviously! 🤣

I think this Sturgeon Full Moon and lunar eclipse season — traditionally associated with reflection, letting go and working out what we actually want to carry forward, has made me think more about what comes home with me. Sadly, probably not the view. Or the wine. Or someone appearing with an Aperol Spritz when I ask.

But hopefully the writing does.

More structured time to write. More focus on my Substack, Between Feeds & IVs and the Doula Diaries. More exploration of The Space Between; motherhood, doula-hood and survivorship, and all the identity shifts that happen somewhere amongst it all.

I’m also trying to stop waiting for the perfect time, the perfect sentence, the perfectly tidy house or the mythical day when my to-do list has nothing on it.

Because apparently that day isn’t coming.

So perhaps this is my post-eclipse promise to myself:

Just write.

At home and In the mess and in Between everything else.

Although preferably, occasionally, under a tree in Tuscany!

There is something about an early morning beach, but here’s a little reminder, peace isn’t always found by the sea.

For new mums, sometimes peace looks like someone holding the baby while you shower, making you lunch, listening without judgement, or giving you permission to simply rest.

Postnatal support isn’t a luxury. It’s the space to breathe, recover and find yourself again.

Wishing you a little moment of calm today, wherever you are.

Once your doula, always your doula.

July has been a magical, if a bit sticky, mixing bowl of my worlds of motherhood and doula’hood.
Weaning, introducing bottles, baby wearing, sensory play, cooking, puree’ing and blending, first aid courses, studying and sharing ideas with my doula gang has met with taxi’ing teens around, early morning dog walks, beach days, time on the yoga mat for my sanity, a quick trip to Poland that we are still processing and lots of mummy daughter shopping!

It’s taken me a while to adjust to the juggle but summer heat can feel unsettling and scattered and I am learning that that is ok. It’s helped me reassure and chat to my clients who have been feeling overwhelmed and out of control. The heat has been another layer on top of what every mum is already juggling, and though the summer is bright and full of energy, it’s still ok to rest and take our time.

Happy weekend everyone xx

Today’s menu?

Not for a Michelin critic…
But For someone who thinks broccoli belongs in their eyebrows and aubergine splatters make their jumper look catwalk ready!

One batch-cooking session = weeks of homemade purées ready to grab from the freezer, with far less stress for you.

I can sit down with my client and work out what purées or first meals they might like. We will use weaning books if they have particular favourites, or want to try a certain weaning specialist. I can support with signposting, extra support, workshops and education. And, If there are older siblings to consider, we can work on menu planning for the whole family.

Future You is going to be very grateful. ☺️

If you needed permission to lower the bar this week… here it is!!

The last week of term can feel like a marathon. Sports days, assemblies, forgotten costumes, emotional children, tired parents and a never-ending pile of washing and a lot of clapping!

So here’s your reminder…

✨ Fish fingers count.
✨ The washing can wait.
✨ A film after school is absolutely okay.
✨ Saying “I’m tired too” doesn’t make you a bad parent.

Your children won’t remember whether every box was ticked this week. They’ll only remember that they felt loved and excited about a break!

So if all you do today is get everyone over the finish line, that’s more than enough.

Take a deep breath. The summer holidays are almost here.

You’ve got this!

The truth is, I came into motherhood carrying a lot of medical trauma, breast cancer treatment and uncertainty.

Those experiences have taught me something I’ll never forget: every mother has a story you can’t always see.

I have learned that practical help can feel like love and that being listened to can be more healing than being given advice. And that every mother deserves someone in her corner.

That’s why I do what I do today, not because I have all the answers, but because I know what it feels like to need someone to simply be there, validate my emotions, reassure me and offer me a space to offload without judgement.

Every family I support has a different story. My own simply reminds me never to assume what someone is carrying.

One of the greatest privileges of my work isn’t just supporting families, it’s also supporting the doulas who support them.

Being a Doula Companion isn’t about having all the answers or telling someone how they should work.

It’s about walking alongside another doula as they discover the kind of doula they want to become.
That can mean celebrating a breakthrough after a beautiful postnatal visit.
- untangling the emotions after a difficult birth.
- simply being the person who says, “You’re doing better than you think”, because this work can ask a lot of us.

We hold space for families navigating huge life changes. We witness joy, exhaustion, uncertainty and grief. We carry stories that deserve to be handled with care.

Doulas need a safe place to reflect, ask questions, build confidence and remember that they don’t have to do this alone either. I needed all of this and still do! The best doulas aren’t the ones who know everything, they are the ones who stay curious and who keep learning, reflecting, and seeking support when they need it.

When we invest in doulas, we’re also investing in every family they’ll go on to support so if you’re a doula who’s just starting out, or even years into your journey and you’re looking for community, someone to walk alongside you, my door is always open.
