Wigan St Pats U16s 60 - 16 Haresfinch U16s

A superb all round team performance saw the lads run out deserved 60-16 winners today.

Pats couldn’t have asked for a better start, with Ethan crossing after just two minutes following a powerful run out wide. However, a spell of complacency allowed Haresfinch to take a 4-6 lead after capitalising on some loose defending.

A few words from the coaches quickly got the lads refocused and the response was outstanding. Harrison was next over the line before Charlie powered his way through the defence. Carter spotted a gap and backed himself to score, giving Pats a commanding 28-6 lead at the break.

The second half belonged to Pats. Strong carries from Cody created space for Max to score, before quick hands from Carter at the scrum sent Harrison racing the length of the field for his second try.

A clever offload from Carter and another powerful run from Ethan earned Ethan his second of the afternoon. Carter then produced a perfectly weighted kick for Max to collect and score his an impressive second try.

Harrison completed a deserved hat-trick with another sensational length-of-the-field effort before Max matched him with his own hat-trick after another brilliant full-length run. Charlie rounded off the scoring with his second try after another storming run from Cody and a pinpoint kick from Carter.

The forwards laid the platform all game with some huge carries, dominant tackles and relentless work in the middle, creating opportunities for the backs to shine. Defensively, Pats were equally impressive, holding Haresfinch up over the line on several occasions.

A special mention to Fin, who added a massive eight conversions! and to Steven, who made his debut today.

The backs were electric, with Max and Harrison producing some outstanding long-range tries, but this was a victory built on a genuine team effort. Every player contributed, worked hard for each other and fully deserved the result.

Even team manager Rob looked relaxed in the second half, celebrating with a well-earned Coke Zero.

ClockFace U16s 54 – 6 Wigan St Pats U16s

A tough afternoon for the St Pats lads, but full credit to ClockFace; on the day, the better team won. There are plenty of takeaways from this one and we’ll be working hard on them in training.

There were positives to build on. Our defence showed real grit at times, holding ClockFace up on our line on more than one occasion. The middle was solid throughout, and Tom put in some big, brave tackles out wide. It was brilliant to have Henry back on the pitch; he made his presence felt immediately with some excellent defensive work.

We created opportunities in attack and we had some good breaks, but couldn’t quite find the line when it mattered. Jack, produced an incredible chase to haul down an opposition player who looked certain to score from length of the field run - a perfect reminder that you never stop chasing, no matter the situation.
