Another Winter League season comes to an end! 🎯

Yet again, we had an amazing turnout at Molto’s with 63 entries for the Welshpool Singles Finals Night. Congratulations to Kacey Jones on winning his third Welshpool Singles title, beating an impressive Antony H Hilditch in the final.

Kacey also defeated defending champion Gareth Ashley in an unbelievable semi-final, ending Tank’s incredible 38-game singles winning streak. Gareth hadn’t lost a singles match in the league, cup or singles competitions since the beginning of March last year — an unbelievable achievement.

Congratulations to all teams and players who picked up trophies this season, and also to the 11 people inducted into the Welshpool Darts League Hall of Fame. It’s been an incredible season that everybody involved should be proud of.

This was the first season in decades that we’ve had a third division, and all of the new teams have been a huge credit to the league. I don’t believe there was a single cancelled or postponed match in Division 3 all season, which says everything about how well those teams have settled into league darts.

Thank you to all the pubs, clubs and bar staff across the league who keep everyone fed and watered every week — it definitely isn’t always easy! A special mention also to Huw Humphreys and all the staff at the Angel and Molto’s for the hard work they’ve put in during some incredibly busy nights this season.

Thank you as well to all committee members, past and present, who have helped build this brilliant league into what it is today. It’s something the whole area can be proud of.

The Summer League AGM will take place at the Grapes on Wednesday 20th May. For those of you not playing through the summer, enjoy the break and we hope to see you all back again in October.

Finally, good luck to everybody playing in the Keith Gamble Welshpool Open tomorrow, and good luck to Jon Gamble, Huw and all the staff who have worked so hard to make the event happen.

It’s the biggest darts competition the town has seen — possibly ever — and Keith would no doubt be incredibly proud of what it has become. It would be fantastic to see somebody from the Welshpool league lift the title.
