💚 We are taking a holiday for a couple of weeks 💚
🎒 180 Miles. 9 Days. 2 Backpacks. 🦯Swipe to see what self-sufficiency actually looks like! 👉
Tomorrow, my husband and I are heading out to tackle the legendary Senda Litoral (Portuguese Coastal Camino).
☀️No luggage transfer services, no shortcuts ☀️
Everything we need to survive, thrive, running and Nordic Walking (on average, 20 miles a day) is right there on the floor—and soon, on our backs! I’m pleased I got my pack down to 3.85kg ✅
To anyone out there who loves Nordic Walking but has never considered a multi-day endurance trek: this may be worth considering! A few clients have already completed some Caminos and others have it on their bucket list 💫.
I think it will be an incredible, liberating experience…in stripping life down to what we can carry! The focus will be on the rhythm of our stride, the experiences and sights to take in, as well as the people we hope to meet along the way 💚
But to manage the 20 miles a day average, self-sufficiently as a duo, our gear has to work as hard as we do. Here is a sneak peek at my essentials:✨
Our “Secret Weapon” Poles: We’ve swapped our static poles for our beautiful Leki travellers - for both the Portuguese beach boardwalks and Galician rocky trails ✅
The Lightweight Rab Packs: Kept strictly under 10% of our body weight. Every single gram counts when you’re run-walking long distances day after day.
🧦 The Footwear System: Injinji toe socks, foot prep and Compeeds blister plasters ✅
Layering is Key: Ultralight waterproofs and quick-dry tech gear. We didn’t pack for “just in case”—we packed for versatility!
By using our Nordic Walking technique to share the load across our upper bodies, carrying these packs becomes a little easier 💪 It turns a heavy backpack into a natural extension of our stride.
Porto to Santiago, here we come! 🌊🇵🇹✨🇪🇸
Out of interest, which bit of kit could you absolutely not live without on a long trek? Let me know in the comments! 👇
