Today I dropped off the old IKEA day bed to my wonderful friends Ali and Daryl.

Luckily, I got a lift back in the Golf R, so that softened the blow 😂

But weirdly, getting rid of that day bed felt quite significant.

I bought it about three months after signing the lease on the gym, during probably the worst period of my life.

Hold the sympathy though. A fair chunk of it was because of my own c**tish ways đŸ€ŠđŸŒâ€â™‚ïž (when I say a fair chunk, I mean all)

This was during Covid. I’d signed the lease, was trying to get the gym ready, we were still closed and I genuinely had no idea how everything was going to work out.

Before the day bed arrived, I’d attempted numerous times to sleep in a hammock stretched from one gym machine to another.

Yes. Really.

The day bed was supposed to be somewhere Noah could chill after school. We had the PlayStation set up out the back and it became his little area.

It also became my bed on more occasions than I’d probably like to admit.

Some of you might even remember the occasional last-minute session where I’d massively overslept.

I particularly remember Emma letting herself into the gym one morning while I was still completely soundo out the back 😂

Times were pretty fu***ng tough.

In January 2021 I took out a credit card just to pay my tax bill.

The gym was still shut because of lockdown and we wouldn’t properly open until April.

So yeah, it’s only an IKEA day bed.

But it also reminds me of that entire period.

Sleeping at the gym.
Trying to build something while it technically wasn’t even allowed to open.
Trying to be a dad.
Trying to sort my own s**t out.
And just hoping that at some point it would all come together.

Five years later, the gym is still here.

And the day bed finally isn’t.

Feels a bit fu***ng weird, if I’m honest.

Funny how the most ordinary things can end up representing an entire chapter of your life.

Some days you just need to put the big girl pants on & show up for yourself đŸ’ȘđŸŒ

Other then squeezing one more episode of Married At First Sight, which really isn’t a benefit by the way, there ain’t any benefit to stopping exercising
.

I nearly didn’t do this run.

I was away on holiday and I’d told myself I was going to get at least one run in, mainly because I start becoming a bit of a grumpy di****ad if I don’t exercise for too long.

So when we were in the Black Forest, I decided I was going to run a loop of Titisee Lake.

About 6k.

Alarm set for 6am.

Lovely.

Except 6am became snooze.

Then another snooze.

Then another one.

By the time I actually surfaced it was about half seven, already getting warm, and I was lying there thinking

“Can I actually be bothered?”

And then I had a different thought.

**You’ll be disappointed if you don’t do this.**

Not necessarily today.

But somewhere a few months down the line, I’d remember that I had the chance to say:

“Yeah, I ran around Titisee Lake in the Black Forest.”

And instead I’d know I’d stayed in bed because I couldn’t be arsed.

So I got up and did it.

And I think sometimes we need to look at exercise in exactly the same way.

Forget whether you feel motivated today.

Think about your future self.

Do you want to get to the point where you struggle to get down on the floor and play with your kids or grandkids

and realise you could have done something about it years earlier?

Do you want to struggle getting yourself back up off the floor and think:

“I probably should have done some strength training.”

Do you want to look back and wish you’d walked more, moved more, looked after yourself a bit better when you had the opportunity?

You don’t need to become obsessed with fitness.

You don’t need to train every day.

You don’t need to suddenly become someone who loves 6am runs.

But it might be worth asking yourself:

What is my future self going to be disappointed I didn’t start doing today?

My face might suggest we’ve just had our worst month ever.

But today, we hit 1,000 attended sessions in a single month for the first time ever.

May was close. June was even closer. Honestly, I didn’t think July would be the month because of holidays, people being away and everything else that comes with summer.

But we crossed the line.

And although 1,000 is a nice number on a screen, it represents far more than that.

It’s 1,000 occasions where someone showed up, trained, did something positive for themselves and kept moving forwards.

So a massive thank you to every client who booked in, turned up and helped us reach it.

And a huge shoutout to Em, Dyl and Stewart, because this doesn’t happen without them delivering great sessions and creating an environment people actually want to keep coming back to.

I’m genuinely really fu***ng proud of what we’re building.

First ever 1,000-session month. Not bad for a miserable c**t.

Big shout out to Noah Fowler for raising over ÂŁ1500 for Men and their emotions

20 years since I played 11 a side footie and I fu***ng knew about it the next 3 days 😭

Michael Jelley put a solid shift in goal. was like prime Keane, Lewis was prime Vidic and I missed the most open header known to man.

We come away with a 10-6 win.

Commiserations to Connor Porter
