Sungjae Im at 90/1 has one of the most consistent records at Augusta in recent years. Runner up on debut, then 8th, 16th and 5th shows he clearly understands how to play this course. He showed signs of form again recently with a strong run at the Valspar and if he brings his best, he has proven he can get right into the mix here.

Daniel Berger at 150/1 feels overlooked. He pushed all the way to a playoff at Bay Hill earlier this season which shows his level is still there. He has made cuts in all four majors last year and already has a top 10 at Augusta on debut. If he sharpens up after the short break, he is more than capable of outperforming his price.

Ben Griffin at 150/1 is the wildcard. Three wins last year pushed him into the top 10 in the world and while 2026 has been quieter, there were signs of life last time out in Houston. He has a strong record in Georgia and comes in with nothing to lose on debut which often suits players here. If he settles quickly, a top finish is well within reach.

Phil Mickelson shot 17 under par at Royal Troon and still didn’t win.

Any other Open Championship in history and that score lifts the Claret Jug. Instead he ran into Henrik Stenson, who went to 20 under and produced one of the greatest major championship performances ever recorded. First and second finished 11 shots clear of third. It wasn’t a collapse or a missed chance, it was golfing at the absolute limit. The greatest performance in a major championship to not win.

Greatest performance to not win?

Recent headlines caused a stir after Rory McIlroy’s name appeared in newly circulated documents connected to Jeffrey Epstein, prompting speculation online before the context was fully understood. The reference comes from a private 2018 email involving Epstein’s longtime pilot and his accountant, discussing activity around private jets and aviation offices.

Within that email, McIlroy is mentioned casually as a “new neighbour” in aviation circles, alongside a throwaway remark suggesting he may have overpaid for his private jet. Given the broader notoriety surrounding Epstein and anyone linked to him, the appearance of McIlroy’s name initially raised eyebrows.

However, there is no allegation, implication, or evidence of any relationship, contact, or wrongdoing involving McIlroy. His name appears only incidentally in a joke about aircraft pricing, with no further connection to Epstein beyond that passing reference.

In short, while the headline grabs attention, the substance does not: McIlroy’s inclusion in the documents is incidental, benign, and unrelated to the crimes or activities that made Epstein infamous.
