I was already qualified as a Menopause Wellbeing Practitioner but it’s an area that interests me greatly and I wanted to take it further and think about offering specialised fitness classes.
Today I qualified as MenoFit Instructor and I am looking forward to offer exercise sessions with a difference!
Ideal for people who have already been through menopause as well as those who are perimenopausal, we will focus on strength and working to improve bone density. However, this is not just a fitness class and exercise is only part of the picture!
By offering MenoFit, I am providing a complete educational, yet nurturing programme which, in addition to exercise, will cover:
• Signs and Symptoms
• Gut Health
• Metabolism, Insulin Resistance and Weight Gain
• Hydration
• Nutrition
• Bone Health
• Cortisol and the Stress Response
• Breathwork and Relaxation
There will be the opportunity to discuss your concerns and share how you are feeling in a safe, supportive environment. You will meet others who are experiencing similar challenges and get to socialise, maybe make new friends! This programme may be of interest to community groups, such as the WI.
The exact structure of the programme may vary, due to individual needs. The programme generally takes place over a period of six weeks, though it can be longer, and I am also happy to support on a one-to-one basis.
If you think MenoFit may be of interest to you, or your group, please get in touch!

Massage and Cancer
About to take my final assessment for my Level 4 Sports Massage - one of the other students was asking the tutor if it’s ok for us to treat cancer patients. Another student commented on how he knows lots of people who do.
As someone specialised in Oncology Massage, this really concerns me.
I believe Sports Massage and Deep Tissue Massage are always going to be unsuitable for cancer patients, but even in massage that uses much less pressure, I wouldn’t recommend treatment by someone who hasn’t done the specialist training.
There are so many things to consider and even if someone is in remission, we still need to be careful. For starters, there are four levels of pressure used in Oncology Massage, and even the deepest one is no deeper than the average Swedish Massage.
Also, people with cancer may not be comfortable with certain positions and as therapists we may even be on the floor whilst giving a treatment.
Treatment times also need to be shorter and we will always need clearance from the client’s doctor.
Please make sure if you or a loved one has cancer and is considering massage, that you/they seek out someone with appropriate training.
