Blurton Wanderers 6-5 The Potters Bar

An eleven goal thriller yesterday saw us fall to a narrow defeat. With an injury crisis to the squad. Three no shows, although bucko did decide he fancied it for the last ten minutes and eventually showed up. And gaffer Tommy having to play because of only having 10 lads against the inform side of the league but still half cut from the night before, tbf still pi**ed from the night before we were all worried. But there is something about this side that when all the odds are against them they produce some of their best stuff.

Within five minutes of the first half we took the lead after Tommy put griff on the wing and told him to be the next Sam Gallagher got the ball out wide and played in ibbo who slotted the ball home 1-0. Five minutes later we found ourselves 2-0 up after the ball fell to Tommy and he played Ibbo through for his second of the game. 2-0. None of us could really believe what was happening not being funny they should be embarrassed of even letting the two lads who got the assists to be cutting them open like that😂 Wanderers did pull one back fifteen minutes later 2-1. Potters though who tbh had played well all half didn’t loose their heads and ibbo restored our two goal lead when he ran onto a ball over the top from dyl and smashed it home for his hatrick 3-1. Just before the ht whistle wanders scored again to make it 3-2. HT 2-3. Into the second half wanderers stepped it up a notch found an equaliser half way through the second half 3-3. Wanders took the lead for the first time in the game ten minutes later 4-3. Wanders scored again shortly after after a good save from Shaun their lad pounced on the rebound 5-3. Potters again though didn’t drop their heads kept battling and found an equaliser after a great ball in from Shane from a corner Jack A rose like a salmon and headed home 5-4. Five minutes later we equalised after dyl played through Leon who fired the ball into the bottom right hand corner 5-5! With two minutes left wanderers got a free kick on the edge of the box and their lad fired it home to win the game for them 6-5. A blow to the lads after a great shift, but a performance they should be proud of against a side who are yet to loose a game🤝 shoutout to the lads playing out of position as well.

Motm- Jack A. Dropped into the centre half position and had his best game yet this season. Commanded his area winning his duals and playing us out from the back. Ibbo or Shaun could have got it also so shoutout to them pair.

The Potters Bar 2-2 Leigh United

A point for the lads which feels like a defeat in many ways. We started very well moving the ball around and took the lead within three minutes after a corner from ash was met by Vitta who headed the ball straight into the left hand corner of the net. 1-0. We created many more chances and should have been out of sight going into half time. Leigh made us pay for not doing so when they equalised against the run of play when there striker missed kicked the ball six yards out and the ball span in the air hit the post and went in. 1-1. HT 1-1. Second half we started brightly again moving the ball around creating chances, Leigh had a chance of their own which Shaun got down well and made a good save to keep it level. Finally we got our lead back which we very much deserved when the ball was played to ibbo who took the ball well beat his man and fired the ball into the net 2-1. With five minutes left to play the referee give a very questionable free kick to them which they scored from after the ball hit Gibbo for an own goal and went in 2-2. FT 2-2. Them celebrating a draw at the end says everything tbh.

MOTM- Wisey. First game for us today, but he was absolutely immense. Bossed the midfield, got us playing forward on many of occasions and looked like he had been playing for us for years.

The Potters Bar 0-2 Barley Mow Development

A narrow defeat for the lads in their second game of the season. We started very slowly and barley mow took full advantage moving the ball around nicely and pressing us very high. After fifteen minutes played they took a well deserved lead. Towards the end of the half we started to come into the game knocking the ball around better ourselves, but struggled to break down the barley mow defence. HT 0-1. Second half the lads were much better and started quicker, winning duals and again the only thing missing from their play was to break down a resilient barley mow defence. Griff nearly got us level with ten minutes to go when he just missed timed a header from a cross from Jack A which if he had a better connection on it would of beat the out coming barley mow goalkeeper. With five minutes left to play barley got the second after a miss kick from the back line fell to their lad on the edge of the box and he fired the ball into the right hand corner which was cruel on the lads who had worked hard to find an equaliser all half. FT 0-2.

MOTM- Shaun & Vitta. Shaun stepped up to go in goal for us after keeper Jord had to pull out 24 hours prior. Couldn’t fault him once, couldnt do anything about either goal. Made some crucial saves to keep the lads in the game and commanded his area very well. Vitta with another solid showing at centre half, won most of his areal duals. Made some fantastic last ditch tackles and clearances throughout the game. Well in lads🤝

AFC Eccleshall 2-0 The Potters Bar

Defeat for the lads in the opening fixture of the season. The lads started well moving the ball around trying to open spaces to break the deadlock and that’s exactly what Kal should of done when he found him self one on one with their keeper around twenty minutes in, but he put the ball wide. Not many more clear cut chances happened for the rest of the half for either side, but the lads were certainly on top out of the two. HT 0-0. Into the second half again the lads started brightly, but were met by a resilient Eccleshall back line. With twenty minutes left it was Eccleshall who took the lead from an excellent free kick which left keeper Jord with no chance after debutant Rob channeled his inner LeBron James giving the free kick away with the most blatant handball you’ll see. The lads kept their heads up and kept pushing to find and equaliser, but with five minutes left Eccleshall made sure they were taking all three points when we let there 6ft6 centre half just have a free header in the box from a corner. FT 2-0.

MOTM- Stevo. Lad was absolutely immense in the middle of the park yesterday. Was like the Stevo of old winning pretty much all his duels and being vital in getting the team up the pitch on many occasions🤝
