Today's B league match result:
Maroons 6
Newmains United 1
The Maroons delivered a comprehensive and confident victory this morning at Stirling University, overcoming a well‑organised Newmains side with quality, patience, and a ruthless second‑half display.
After a bright opening spell where the boys dominated possession, the breakthrough arrived on 20 minutes, Rory rising well to head home a pinpoint cross from Matthew. Ten minutes later it was our Trialist who doubled the lead, finishing calmly after excellent link‑up play from Sam L.
Five minutes before the interval, Newmains produced a superb individual goal to pull one back, sending us into half‑time at 2–1.
The message at the break was simple: increase the tempo and workrate. Despite the hot conditions, the boys responded exactly as asked.
Within three minutes of the restart, Craig unleashed a strike from distance to make it 3–1, and he repeated the trick on 52 minutes to put the game beyond doubt at 4–1. On the hour mark, Ray was clattered in the box and Matthew stepped up to thunder home the resulting penalty for 5–1.
From there, the boys created a series of excellent chances and if not for two or three acrobatic goal‑line clearances by Newmains, the scoreline would have been more emphatic. The icing on the cake came on 70 minutes, when Ray finished decisively to round off a dominant 6–1 victory.
A strong, disciplined performance across the pitch, with every player contributing in demanding conditions 👌

One of those days where the entire squad more than played their part. Take your pick…everyone delivered today!! 😊
A terrific win and another step forward for the group. Congratulations to the boys, thanks to those who came to watch, and, thanks to Newmains for travelling through. Best of luck for the season ahead.

Rossvale 2–3 Maroons
Maroons top Section B and march into the semi‑final 💪
A threadbare Maroons squad of just 12 fit players produced a gutsy, disciplined performance in Bishopbriggs this afternoon, digging deep to win a scrappy but deserved league cup tie.
The boys made the perfect start. Keeper Derry spotted Craig peeling off his marker and clipped a beautifully weighted pass over the top. Craig took it in stride and finished superbly on 8 minutes to make it 0–1.
Rossvale responded well and equalised around the half‑hour mark, deserved at that stage, as we weren’t moving the ball with our usual sharpness. On the stroke of half‑time a scramble in the box fell kindly for the hosts and they bundled home to take a 2–1 lead.
We switched shape at the break and immediately tightened up defensively, though midfield remained a little loose. But on 65 minutes, Craig rose brilliantly to meet a lovely corner and powered home a fantastic header for 2–2.
Sensing momentum, we changed formation again, pushing three up top in search of the winner. The boys delivered...
After excellent work from Sam N, Ray latched onto Sam’s header, drove forward and whipped an inch‑perfect cross towards Craig met it emphatically, smashing a superb strike home and completing a sensational hat‑trick with ten minutes left.
The lads managed the closing stages well, but a very soft penalty awarded to Rossvale in injury time created late drama. The spot‑kick was sent well wide and that was the the last kick of the match.
With that result, the Maroons finish top of League Cup Section B, securing a well‑earned place in the semi‑final. Reinforcements return en masse this week, and on this evidence the boys will fear nobody when that test comes around...
MVP:
With a hat‑trick of genuine quality finishes, relentless work rate, and big‑moment composure. Today’s MVP goes to our no.9, Craig. 🩵♥️⚽️
Thanks to our hosts Rossvale who played very well and good luck for the season ahead guys 🤝

Riverside Maroons – 2
Gartcairn – 1
The Maroons claimed all three League Cup points tonight with a composed, disciplined display against a good Gartcairn side. From the first whistle, the boys looked confident, organised, and intent on carrying their positive pre‑season football into competitive action.
It was Matthew H who set the tone. After a bright start, he opened the scoring with a clever finish from around 12 yards…sharp movement, quick feet, and a calm strike into the corner 👍. His influence didn’t stop there. Midway through the second half, he turned provider, delivering the cross that Craig met superbly with a powerful header to make it 2–0.
The Maroons created enough chances to put the game to bed, two very good opportunities in particular, but couldn’t quite find the third. Gartcairn pulled one back with around 20 minutes remaining, but even after the setback, the boys looked the more likely side to score in the closing stages. Game management was good, composure high, and the result never truly felt in doubt.
A good match, more minutes in the legs, and clear signs that this team is finding it's feet.
MVP:
Four or five genuine contenders tonight. Alfie was back to his best, Mason, Marley and Thomas outstanding at the back. Derry was fantastic making his debut in goals and Craig scored another belter. But with a goal and an assist adding to outstanding 90 mins tonight’s MVP goes to Matthew H...
Congrats MATTHEW👌💪⚽
Thanks to GARTCAIRN FC for travelling through and good luck for the season ahead 🤝
Well done lads ♥️🩵
