Four strokes. Four very different sets of skills.
Over the next few weeks we are taking each one in turn and showing you what we are actually looking for when we teach it. First up, front crawl.
Front crawl is the one most children want to swim the moment they can get their face in the water. It looks fast and it feels fast. Done properly it is also the most efficient stroke in the pool.
What we work on:
A long, flat body position so nothing is dragging
A steady kick from the hip, not the knee
Breathing to the side without lifting the head
A relaxed arm over the top and a strong pull underneath
Get those four right and the rest follows. Speed, stamina and a stroke that will still be there when they are forty.
Rushing it only builds habits that take years to undo. So, we take our time.
