Embodiment is a wonderful place to be.

At the York Pelvic Floor Immersive, we explored what it means to move as an integrated whole - not as a collection of parts, but as a living connected system - one body and one person integrated and whole. A collective and gathering of curious movers and movement professionals all knowing there is something more to movement. And observing how when we embody our movement and become integrated our nervous systems respond. So much fun and joy to go exploring! And one language: somatic movement.

The Franklin Method teaches us to be curious, non judgemental and try out different things. We imagine and sense before we move. And we listen back to our body for feedback and it’s yes - that instinctively felt good and now the rest of my body, mind and mood feels better too! A happy place to be!

Thank you to my hosts for bringing Franklin Method here into your space in the middle of York. I cannot wait to return in November for the Embodied Vagus Nerve & Deep Rest Immersive - that’s very special work and booking is now open. 🧘‍♀️🕯✨

See you soon York and thank you 🙏

In my upcoming Pelvic Floor Immersive, these Franklin Method tools become our anchors. We don’t use them for something like a standard workout, we use them to awaken the nervous system, feel the natural design of your pelvic floor, use dynamic imagery to bring this part of us to life!

Go beyond generic pelvic floor cues and myth, outdated exercises into precise anatomical imagery your body can actually use.

If you’re ready to change the map in your mind so your body can finally release and support you, this is where that starts.

If you are curious about embodiment or somatics see what Franklin Method can do for you - less tension, ease, comfort and take that deeper breath! Pelvic floor health connects into lower back health, a calmer nervous system and more self confidence. And a way to be mindful without even trying.

Join me on Saturday in York at the beautiful Stables Yoga studio, I’d love to see you,

Sarah xx

Embodiment Thursday is here again! This week embodiment / disembodiment and moving away from self.

We move away from our bodies when we’re injured, when voices of authority override our own sense, when we break ourselves into parts to be fixed. We criticise what doesn’t work. We dissociate. But if we can shift from criticism to care - if we can see that piece as deserving support - everything changes. Sometimes we need help as we can’t do this alone as we may have fear, overwhelm or be at a loss where to start. But with care, we can move back toward ourselves: integrated, whole, imperfections and all. Moving from pieces of us into an embodied whole. That’s part 1 complete this week.

More next week and some longer writing on this topic coming soon. I hope you found it helpful, Sarah xx

Nervous system work may be a bit of a fashion this year but it’s everyday practice for Somatic Therapists who have trained in it for years and are attuned in their bodies to recognise places in others that need support. In movement your nervous system has to be settled and available before your body can successfully learn new patterns. Without it, you’re effectively having a dialogue of discord with yourself - you want something but your nervous system is saying no - because it may not feel safe and then we have an argument happening which can add more stress and tension on an overloaded body. This is what I work with in both Somatic Pilates and SomaSoul Somatic Therapy and sometimes both in combination. Same nervous system principle, different entry points. I know this from my own felt experience, and from over a decade in the Pilates studio working with what actually shifts things for my clients.

There is a depth to this work that requires depth in training and experience. There are no quick fixes or single exercises that bypass the nervous system. And no cathartic releases either. And this is relational too, you can’t just do this by copying or have a single session. But, this is what sustainable change looks like. And the end result is beautiful. ☺️✨

If this means something to you in a felt way, you are welcome here.

Embodying your pelvic floor through felt sense. Discover Ground. More motion and comfort in the hip joints. Lower back release. Elastic rebound and elastic pliés for dancers! A deeper breath. This is what happens when you stop watching yourself in mirrors, correcting from outer appearance and start feeling what you do instead!
When you access the felt sense of your pelvic floor your living, sensing body everything shifts. Ground. Ease. Elasticity. Breath. Somatic movement, grounded in science.
Feel the difference. We do that by doing. No fixing. Not copying. Just working with ourselves!
Welcome home!

My Thursday thoughts!!

So at the end of the week reflecting on this book - it’s taken me on a journey I didn’t think I’d travel to and at the end of the week I sit back here in my studio and have a moment taking stock.

Reading through the excerpts that always held meaning for me so many many years back - there’s one over those years I always returned back to: “don’t forget that your greatest challenge is your biggest ally. Difficult problems require creative solutions that can make you grow faster than anything else”.

When people say I’m lucky, I say yes - but I also know the work it took. The years of change to arrive in this space. The study, the attention, the energy it continues to require. Luck is a tiny part of the story.

Embodiment is a journey we can all travel, and every step is a step going home. Through somatic practice, I’ve learned that change requires deliberate attention, and the willingness to move through difficulty and try some things out. For my little dancers especially and those of you at the start of your own journey your body is not a problem to solve. It’s your ally, and it is so responsive and listening to all that you think and do. That’s pretty amazing!

I think the old dancing Sarah would look at this week and not really believe me! Helping dancers become more healthy, happy and confident is my passion project. So for my CAT dancers I am both championing you on and wishing you the greatest excitement and passion in your work! I’m excited to see what you have created next week too!

I hope you find these words have as much meaning for you as they did and do for me.

Franklin Method in York, 15 August 🌸

I’m excited to be bringing the Franklin Method Pelvic Floor immersive back to York, my second home as I had such a warm welcome and beautiful feedback last November.

I’m an Expert Level 4 Franklin Method Educator (trained directly by Eric Franklin), ISMETA Registered Master Somatic Movement Educator / Therapist, Somatic Therapist & Comprehensive Pilates Teacher.

What you’ll learn from an embodied and experiential perspective:

• How your pelvic floor works dynamically as an integrated system, not an on/off switch
• The breath connection - how your diaphragm and pelvic floor coordinate
• How pelvic floor connects to your spine, feet, movement quality, and ease
• Practical imagery and movement tools you’ll use immediately
• Tools for teaching with more depth and presence

I’m also Teaching “Spiral & Suspend: The Art of Effortless Turns” in the International Franklin Method Virtual Studio tomorrow night - exploring exactly how pelvic floor mechanics can help dancers make more beautiful and accurate turns too. Bringing that same depth to York.

Perfect for: Pilates teachers • Yoga teachers • Dancers • Somatic practitioners • Curious movers

When: Saturday 15 August, 1–3:30pm
Where: Stables Yoga, York
Investment: £42.50
Spaces are limited - depth and personalised attention is important to me in my work!

Your body doesn’t change because you tell it what to do.
It changes because your brain experiences something different.
Changing your thinking about movement radically changes the way you move.
This is such an important part of movement education because most of us want the same thing: a body that lasts for life, moves optimally, and feels good to live in. We want ease, comfort, resilience, and joy in movement, not just for today but for years to come.
If you’re practising Pilates, dance, yoga, strength training, or any movement practice, this is also one of the keys to reducing overuse, compensation, and injury.
This is where the mind body connection really matters.
Using the Franklin Method, Leven work, somatic practice, and working with neuroplasticity and neurobiology, we can change the way the brain perceives movement. As perception changes, movement changes. The body becomes more integrated, more embodied, and movement feels more natural, efficient, and effortless.
Movement doesn’t start with muscles but with your perception and thoughts.
When you understand where movement truly comes from, and what it actually feels like from the inside, you stop trying to make movement happen and start allowing it to happen.
Embodiment is something that profoundly changes how we move, think and feel.
I’d love to know if anything resonates into your practice.
