Middlewood Rovers Black vs. Ecclesfield Red Rose
Pre season friendly U9’s

We were visited by Ecclesfield Red Rose today, for the penultimate friendly match before the league begins. After a chilly start to the morning, the sun soon warmed things up and made for pleasant watching conditions. A different experience for the players though, but we kept the substitutes rolling and made sure that they kept well hydrated on the bench.

Our opponents started strongly and tested our defences early on in the first half, but our keeper was on form and made some crucial saves to minimise the losses. We kept the pressure up though and the team did well to keep the movement going. We battled on, breaking quickly when we had the ball and had a few missed opportunities but Alfie did find the back of the net and took a ball home again after the final whistle.

We did struggle with the pace and movement of our opponents, especially in the second half, but once we got our marking right, we managed the game well and stifled their attacks.

Congratulations to our man of the match, which today goes to our goalkeeper Noah, very well deserved, with some great demonstrations of his abilities, powering the ball up the field to open up the game for our striker team.

A very entertaining, high energy match and a great performance from both teams, well done to you all.

Pre season friendly U9’s

After missing two weeks of training, the first due to a scheduled match, the second due to the extreme weather, we started the game a little bit apprehensively.

The team soon settled down however, and found discipline in positioning and played a good passing game to keep the ball and create the opportunities.

Congratulations to Keyross, our man of the match today and he got to take a ball home!
He showed that he can read the game well and he played out of position when he needed to, tracking back quickly, he was also strong but fair when fighting for possession.

Overall, another strong performance from the team, with some great individual and collective efforts.

Cawthorne JFC vs. Middlewood Rovers Black, Sunday 9th August 2026.
Pre season friendly

We travelled away to Cawthorne today with a limited squad, which gave us an opportunity to get some good match time for all the players present.

We tried something different with our formation and player positions to give the team the experience of playing elsewhere on the field. All of our players adjusted easily and we played well against a good team and faced strong opposition in all areas of the pitch.

Our striker Alfie bagged another hat trick and got to take another ball home, thankfully he is bringing them back!

Congratulations to Oliver, our man of the match today, great team work, commitment, determination and communication skills today.

Most importantly though, we all had fun, with beautiful weather in a very picturesque part of the world.
