🎙️ MANAGER’S REACTION | STEVIE WILSON
We caught up with manager Stevie Wilson to get his thoughts following today’s Scottish Communities Cup tie against Glasgow University.
“Firstly, congratulations to Glasgow University and good luck to them in the next round.
“The wind was a real issue today. Glasgow Uni won the toss and chose to play with it in the first half, so we knew it was going to be tough. We were looking forward to the test though, against a good side who have been going well this season.
“After going 1-0 down about 15–20 minutes into the game, I actually thought we were the better side for a spell and created a few chances ourselves. Owen went through one-on-one and Brian hit the bar, but then we conceded the second.
“I was hoping we could get to half-time at 2-0 and then really have a go at them in the second half to see how they coped, but conceding the third made it a much tougher ask, especially against a good side. I felt a couple of the goals were of our own making as well.
“We came out in the second half and created five good chances within the first 10 minutes. We needed that early goal to give ourselves a chance, but when you’re pushing forward you leave yourself a little more open, and Glasgow broke away to get another.
“The boys kept battling, continued to create chances and we eventually got our goal late on. Brian played a great cross-field ball and Cammy was there at the back post with a brave header.
“I genuinely didn’t think the performance was that bad, but if you don’t take your chances, you don’t win games.
“I’ve said before that there’s a very talented group of boys here. There’s a great team spirit and we’ve got good characters in that dressing room.
“It was also great to see all the boys and committee together at Del Greco’s for our pre-match.
“Now the cups are out of the way, we can settle down and concentrate on our league campaign.
“Next week we’ve got Irvine Victoria coming to Campbell Park. It’s another tough game against a team around us in the league, with both sides fighting for three points. Being a local derby adds that little bit of extra spice as well.
“It should be a good game.”
