Memo Warriors 2-6 Silver Strikers – Season Opener

The heatwave finally gave us a break, with the girls only having to battle through a mild 23 degrees and a lovely breeze. Practically jumper weather.

Memo Warriors came flying out of the blocks, pressing Silver Strikers from the first whistle and showing exactly what they were about.

But fair play to Silver Strikers — they were solid. Their keeper had clearly decided she was channeling prime Buffon, pulling off save after save and keeping Memo frustrated.

And what a game it was. Memo played some brilliant football, linking up with slick passes and creating chance after chance… they just couldn’t quite find the back of the net.

Silver Strikers, though, were clinical. They took their chances and scored some unbelievable goals — the kind that make you just shrug and say, “fair enough.”

The final score finished 6-2 to Silver Strikers, but the scoreline definitely doesn’t reflect the game or the performance from Memo Warriors. The girls were outstanding and can hold their heads high.

Yesterday, we had a brilliant afternoon taking part in a round robin tournament ahead of the 9-a-side league kicking off in a few weeks! ⚽🙌

It was great to get a feel for the pitches, test out the nets, and remind ourselves that yes… the offside rule is a thing 🫠😂

A huge thank you to all the teams and organisers for a well-run day, and especially for holding a minute’s silence in memory of the lovely Paul, Ifrah’s husband, who recently passed away after a long and courageous battle with prostate cancer. We wore blue ribbons in his memory and were proud to take a moment together to remember him. 💙

A special shout-out also goes to Marie for her first experience managing the team today and somehow keeping track of the endless subs without losing her mind! 👏😂 We think she’s earned herself a place on the touchline.

Lots of positives to take from today, and we’re already looking forward to the 9-a-side league getting underway at Thorncliffe in a few weeks. Bring it on! 💪⚽💙
