Rotherham Metro Water Polo Club

This weekend we secured GOLD for our U16’s in the Northern League tournament at East Manchester. The team with HC Dominic Epton, assisted by Matt Arthur and expertly TM by Joanne Hartshorn.

Metro started the Northern league campaign with a slender, hard fought, 7-5 win over a strong Sedgefield side with late goals from Jess (2) and Ellen. After a two game break we then faced a strong Huddersfield side who came out quick with 3 early goals. Despite mounting a late comeback in the second half Huddersfield took the points. The team regrouped to play against Morley. With HC Dom saying “We were clinical and pressed extremely well” resulting in a comfortable 11-2 win. In our next game metro were up against the currently undefeated Grantham side. A ruthless attack and organised defence coordinated by Sam Edwards allowed us to cruise to an 8-0 win. To secure gold we had to beat a Sheffield side who due to a suspension only had 6 players. The team took a commanding lead, always having the game under control and we won 8-4, this meant we tied with Sedgefield but as we beat them earlier in the tournament we took the gold on the count back rule.
HC Dom said “All the players were superb and it was a good learning experience for all involved.” With Assistant coach Matt saying “Attitude and Team Play scored 11 out of 10 on my assessment.In the game, on the bench or in the team talks, the one-team spirit is very evident from these guys and it’s just brilliant.”

So proud of 5 of our Rotherham Metro girls who along with their North East team mates played five hard-fought matches, winning three and narrowly losing two. The highlight came in their final game against London, where they battled back from a three-goal deficit to force a dramatic penalty shootout and secure victory.
The win earned the North East team an impressive 5th-place finish and promotion to Division 1 for future competitions – a fantastic achievement for everyone involved.

A special congratulations to Isla Plume, who was named North East MVP !

Busy Weekend for the Rotherham Youth teams. With the U14s and u16s Away at Grantham Saturday 7th March, and the u16s playing again at home to Sedgefield at Maltby on Sunday 8th March at 16:30. If your around come a support the teams.

A massive well done to the amazing players who represented Rotherham Metro Water Polo Club at the U15s Female National Age Group Championships in Coventry!

The girls finished an incredible 5th out of 14 teams, winning all their games except one — a narrow loss to last year’s champions by just one goal in the final minute. Despite that, they showed true grit, resilience, and fantastic teamwork throughout the competition.

We couldn’t be prouder of how you all played with such passion and determination.

Metro Mens team having success in the Conference league🤩

Rotherham Metro Water Polo Club made short work of Leeds and Castleford with a convincing 20-10 victory. It was a good team performance with goals spread throughout the team. A special mention to Aston Walsh who was involved with everything from front to back and unselfishly set others up rather than take the plaudits himself.

Rotherham Metro Women took on Morley and came out on top with a 12-7 win!

Incredible teamwork from such a young squad — average age just 15.9 years and with a squad of only 9!

Huge thanks to Izzi for leading as Captain, Birchy for top-tier coaching, and Scott for keeping everything running smoothly as Team Manager. 🙌
