There’s a fresh look to this Quins squad this season. New faces have come in, players have stepped up and the squad is starting to take shape.

But the identity stays the same — work hard, compete, play with freedom and never take a backwards step.

We’ve scored plenty of goals, played some really good attacking football and been tested against some strong sides. Exactly what pre-season is for.

Firstly, a massive thank you to Aberbargoed Buds for welcoming us today and for having the boys back at the club afterwards and putting food on for them. Fantastic hospitality and hugely appreciated. 👏 We wish you all the very best for the season ahead.

As for the game — what a contest. It had everything. Great football, great defending, big tackles, commitment, determination and two teams giving absolutely everything.

We were knocking on the door from the off and were unlucky to see an early goal disallowed, but the lads never stopped. They kept playing, kept battling and kept believing.

And eventually the breakthrough came…

But a special mention has to go to every single one of our lads today.

We travelled with just 13 players, with plenty away, and to a man they were absolutely superb. They fought for every ball, committed to every tackle, backed each other up and dug in right until the final whistle to earn a deserved win against a very good Aberbargoed Youth side.

Tomorrow we hit the road for our final pre-season friendly before the league campaign gets underway next week!

We are welcomed by Aberbargoed Buds Youth at the recreation ground, The lads are raring to go and ready for another important 90 minutes. 👊⚽

Six of our boys stepped up and represented the seniors today, and they’ll be looking to take that experience, confidence and form straight into tomorrow along with all the other young Quins. 💪

Well… that was certainly one for the neutral! 😅⚽

Our second friendly of pre-season ends in a 5–5 draw against Penydarren Youth — a game packed with goals, chances and some really good football from both teams.

And all of it played in extreme conditions — 28°C at kick-off! ☀️🥵 Huge credit to every player who got through the minutes in that heat.

We were missing a few of the lads, but that gave us the opportunity to experiment, try players in new positions, look at different combinations and continue learning about this squad.

There’s plenty still to work on — that’s exactly what pre-season is for — but we won't be afraid to play football and have a go.

This season represents a new chapter for Porth Harlequins BGC Youth. New league. New challenges. New grounds to visit. New opportunities to test ourselves. And, of course, a few old rivalries ready to be renewed. 👀🔥

From September through to February, there are some massive games ahead and plenty of memories waiting to be made.

We know stepping into youth football brings a different challenge, but this group is ready for it. We've worked hard to build a squad that wants to compete, play football the right way and represent this badge with everything they've got.

There will be highs. There will be setbacks. There will be battles.

But one thing won't change…

We'll attack every game together. We'll compete for every point. And we'll give absolutely everything in true Quins style. 👊

After an emphatic 11–1 win over Bettws FC Youth in our opening pre-season friendly, our youth football journey continues this Thursday as we travel to face Penydarren Youth.

The first game gave us plenty to be pleased about — new players settling in, goals throughout the team and some outstanding football — but one result means nothing. The standards have to continue.

This group has ambitions this season. We want to compete. We want to improve. And every time we pull on that purple shirt, we want people to know Porth Harlequins mean business. 👊
