Rhayader Bowling Club would like to make clear that we fully support any decision made with the welfare and safety of players in mind, especially during periods of extreme heat.

We are in complete agreement with the decision to suspend the Veterans League fixtures on Thursday, given these matches are played during the hottest part of the day and many participants are older players, whose wellbeing must come first.

However, we do feel surprised and somewhat disappointed by the decision to cancel all league fixtures this week, particularly Wednesday evening’s games. Our club was happy and willing to play our Wednesday fixture, as this would have taken place later in the evening when temperatures were expected to be significantly lower.

At present, we are unclear how this decision was reached and whether all clubs across the Mid Wales leagues were consulted or in agreement before the blanket postponement was announced.

We respect the difficult nature of these decisions, but for transparency and future planning, we would welcome greater clarity on the decision making process and how club views were considered.

As always, player welfare should remain the priority, but open communication across all clubs is equally important.
