Words with the gaffer 🗣

On the result:
"When you fall behind 3 times in a game you have to be happy with a draw but I felt like it's a game we could have won. A first point of the season and something to build on"

On the performance:
"This is the most important thing. Our performance today was phenomenal and if we had have lost we could have walked away with our heads held high. We asked for the girls to compete today and show the best version of ourselves and we certainly did that. Off the ball we were aggressive, combative and hard working and on the ball we were brave, confident and creative"

On the development:
"I think today really showed how this challenge is helping the girls development. They are getting better each week at the things playing against boys forces you to get better at such as dealing with long balls, high balls, bouncing balls, heading, anticipation and quicker decisions. The boys game is quicker, more intense and physical and in that aspect we arw getting better and by the end of the season I think we'll be a real force and the skills learnt will help our girls dominate the female game"

On the goals:
"Brilliant goals. We scored 4 fantastic goals which showcased lots of different skills. The 1st goal is brilliant one and two touch football which we worked on at training this week, the 2nd goal is a creative pass and great finish, the 3rd is persistence and character then great composure to finish and the 4th is hitting the ball early which we also worked on in training this week so very pleased"

On the defence:
"Outstanding today. Two unfortunate errors cost us 2 goals but overall I thought we nullified their attacks 2nd half especially and was very aggressive in our defending"

Final thoughts:
"Most pleasing thing today was the atmosphere around the team felt much more like us and how we want it to be. The support from the girls on the bench showed great support throughout and I really felt like everyone wanted what was best for the team today rather than individual focus. It was very much about the collective and I think the more we gel and have these good moments together the better we'll get as the season goes on"

🏆 Coaches: Lily - Commanding performance in defence making crucial tackles, blocks and clearances throughout. Won headers and made a game saving tackle to deny an open goal! Brilliant performance 💪🏻

🏆 Managers: Issy - Outstanding from start to finish. Didn't stop working and caused the defence nightmares all morning. Showed such quality and composure on the ball and deservedly scored the late equaliser! Unplayable in this mood 🔥⚽️

Match Report ⚽️

We travelled to Solihull for our first away trip of the season, a lovely morning and good facilities put us in good spirits pregame. Unfortunately GK Ellie picked up an injury in the warm up but bravely fought on to play although this would have a very unfortunate bearing on the result today.

Ravens started the better and sharper team. The looked hungry and energetic and it was only some brilliant saves from Ellie which prevented the lead. We took the lead against the run of play when some quick football found Jess who exchanged passes with Issy and fed a diagonal pass through to Darcey who rounded the keeper and made no mistake! 0-1.
Ravens then hit a quick fire double with 2 great finishes to give them the lead 2-1. Ellie made another 2 great saves to prevent further damage and the defence stood strong till HT.

2nd half we really found our flow and the football was fantastic! We found a deserved equaliser following a half cleared long throw which Isla stepped onto and played a delightful chipped pass through to Darcey who smashed home! 2-2.
Ravens then took the lead as that pregame injury reared its ugly head. A slightly under hit back pass forced Ellie to rush forward and her injured leg clearance only found the forward who rolled into the empty goal. 3-2.
The girls were determined not to lose in this manner and Millies persistence in closing down the defender lead to her getting a toe on the ball and finding Tash who bullied her way through, dropped the shoulder, opened her body up and found the far corner like a prime Thierry Henry! 3-3! We were on top and believed we could win the game. Ravens went ahead again when Ellie bravely, on one leg swept up a through ball but her clearance was sent straight back by the CM to the striker who rolled it into the corner before Ellie could reset herself. 4-3 and we felt hard done by in truth.
Then the pivotal moment of the match, some good play from Ravens released the striker, he took the ball around Ellie and composed himself to finish in the empty goal when Lily came from out of nowhere to block the goalbound effort and keep us in the game! 👏🏻
Moments later we found a deserved equaliser when Rose met the long clearance and sent a measured volley over the backline for Issy who smashed home into the far top corner for 4-4!!
We pushed for a winner but just ran out of time and in the end took a much deserved point 💪🏻

Another game where we felt we were the better side for large spells and on another day win the game. So proud of the performance once again and another game which has drawn plenty of praise for our girls from strangers watching us play. Back home next week where we look to continue to build on the momentum of this game ❤️🐺🤍
