Match Report – Glenburn v KFA ⚽️

A really positive performance from us today, with plenty for the boys and coaches to be pleased with. The most encouraging part for us was the intensity, organisation and teamwork shown across the whole pitch.

We started brightly. After just 1 minute, some good pressing created an opening in the KFA defence. After a scramble involving 2–3 shots, the ball dropped to Sean, who calmly finished for 1–0.

At 3 minutes, Harry reacted quickest to a clever through ball, drove forward and finished confidently to make it 2–0.

We settled well after the early goals and continued to work hard as a team.

• Arjun and Broden communicated well and helped keep the back line organised.
• Our wingers worked tirelessly to maintain our shape.
• The midfield moved the ball intelligently and kept us playing positively.

At 12 minutes, Harry controlled a high ball brilliantly, turned and released Declan with a well-timed pass. Declan kept his composure to make it 3–0.

At 19 minutes, some good play down the right saw Declan chase down a ball he had no right to reach. He cut it across goal for Harry, who finished the move for 4–0.

At 27 minutes, another spell of pressure created an opening. Sean found Ryan, who took the ball beyond the keeper and finished for 5–0.

Two minutes later, Aidan released Alex, whose effort was saved before Sean reacted quickest to the rebound to make it 6–0.

Half-time: Glenburn 6–0 KFA

We came out for the second half looking to maintain the same work rate and team play.

At 41 minutes, Sean’s deep corner found Cameron, who showed great feet before firing a low effort into the corner for 7–0.

At 46 minutes, Aidan played a precise through ball to Cameron, who timed his run well and reached the ball before the keeper to make it 8–0.

At 53 minutes, crosses from Cameron and Sean, along with pressure from Oliver, caused problems in the box. The ball eventually dropped to Charlie, who struck it low and hard for 9–0.

At 56 minutes, Aidan collected the ball centrally and quickly released Sean, who finished well for 10–0.

At 69 minutes, a cross from the left found Declan, who produced a lovely left-footed finish for 11–0.

At 71 minutes, Harry worked brilliantly down the right and delivered into the box. Oliver collected the ball and produced a crisp finish, but the referee’s whistle went for offside, denying him a well deserved goal.

It wasn’t just our attacking play that impressed us today. Harry (GK), Rhuraidh, James, Charlie, Olly and Blair were excellent defensively. Their reactions to danger, communication and organisation helped us protect the clean sheet, while Harry’s distribution from goal regularly allowed us to turn defence into attack.

Final Score: Glenburn 11–0 KFA

Despite the scoreline, we want to give full credit to KFA. Their boys continued to battle and compete for the full match. Their heads never went down, they kept working for each other and made sure we had to maintain our standards right until the final whistle. That attitude deserves a lot of respect from all of us at Glenburn. 👏🤝

Of course, we’re delighted with the result, but for us the biggest positive was seeing every single player contribute and work for each other. For that reason, we won’t be picking an individual Man of the Match today — the whole squad earned the recognition together.

It’s a great start to the season, but that’s all it is — a start. There’s plenty still for us to work on and improve. We hope all of our boys, including those who weren’t in today’s matchday squad, can take confidence from the result and continue pushing each other forward.

Back to training Monday and Wednesday before we finish next week away to Largs.

Pre-Season Update 13/08/26

Ayr Boswell Colts 2012s vs Glenburn MWFC Colts 2012

The boys made the short trip to the KGV for pre-season friendly against our old friends Ayr Boswell Colts 2012s .
We knew we would have a tough shift on our hands with Boswell being the division above us in the AYFL.
We were almost at full squad strength with a few still on holiday, but massive thanks to Lucas Dougall for making the step up from Glenburn MWFC 2014s to help us in goals while Harry was on holiday.

We arrived to the Boswell boys warming up with real intent. Their warm up was loud, sharp and purposeful, which sets a tone before a ball is even kicked. Our boys are notoriously quiet, taking a bit longer to settle – we are working on it!!
Once the whistle went, though, the match burst into life. The opening minutes were frantic — both teams pressing, both trying to impose themselves, and the game swinging from one end to the other.

In the middle of that chaos came a moment of real composure. On eight minutes, Sean produced a superb, whipped ball that sliced straight through the Boswell back line. Declan timed his run perfectly, took the ball in stride and finished confidently across the keeper into the bottom left corner. It was a brilliantly crafted goal, and it settled the team after a hectic start.

Boswell responded twenty minutes in. A loose ball in midfield wasn’t dealt with, allowing a simple slip-through pass that their striker finished past Lucas. It was a reminder that in a fast, open game, small moments of hesitation can be costly.

We almost retook the lead shortly after. A deep corner from the right was met by a committed header from Thomas, sparking a scramble in the box. Bodies flew everywhere, the ball ricocheted around, and Boswell eventually managed to clear it off the line. It was a chance created through determination and pressure, and it showed what we could do when we played with conviction.

Half time arrived at 1–1 — a fair reflection of a competitive, high tempo first half.

The second half, however, asked bigger questions of fitness and concentration. As the pace continued, Boswell began to find more space. Lucas, stepping in for Harry, produced an outstanding performance throughout, and his bravery was on full display at sixty three minutes when he came out to narrow the angle on a through ball, forcing the striker wide before Thomas cleared brilliantly off the line.

Boswell’s pressure eventually told. A cut back from the left was tapped in at close range for 2–1, followed quickly by a clean strike from the edge of the box after a midfielder drifted into space untracked. At 3–1, the momentum had swung. When a free kick was curled into the top corner minutes later, Lucas had no chance, and suddenly the scoreline read 4–1. A very costly 10 minutes.

What happened next deserves credit. Rather than folding, the boys responded with character never giving up the fight. Thomas delivered a long looping free kick that dropped to Olly at the back post, who finished well into the keeper’s left to make it 4–2. Olly’s starting to make a habit of scoring. Moments later, the best move of the match unfolded — sharp, intricate interplay between Alex, Ryan and Arjun, ending with Alex firing high into the net with a great strike. At 4–3, the belief returned, and we pushed hard in the closing stages, but Boswell held firm.

The final score was 4–3, but the performance told a more detailed story.

There were several standout performers at the KGV, and the same has been true throughout preseason. The coaches are confident that the foundations for a very good season are already in place. What we need now is for the boys to believe in themselves, trust the work they’ve put in, and commit to wanting the best for both their own development and the team as a whole. If they do that, everything else will follow.

First Half

Ardeer started strongly and were right up for it from the first whistle. They were physical, made some powerful runs, and it was clear they were fully switched on.

Around the 6-minute mark, we started to get a foot on the ball and put together some really intricate passing moves. Despite growing into the game, Ardeer struck first, sliding a fine ball past Harry to make it 1-0.

At 12 minutes, a succession of crosses from the left caused problems for the Ardeer defence. The final one dropped to Harry, who finished well to level things up at 1-1. ⚽️

20 minutes – Changes:

At 23 minutes, Cameron whipped in a wicked corner. The ball bounced around the box before Ryan reacted quickest and fired home to put us 1-2 ahead. ⚽️

At 26 minutes, some good football worked the ball to Aidan around 30 yards from goal. He took it on and unleashed a high, powerful strike into the net. An absolute belter! 🚀 1-3

At 32 minutes, the referee awarded Ardeer a penalty following a foul in the box. They converted to bring it back to 2-3.

At 38 minutes, we cranked up the pressure again. Declan won the ball, nutmegged the defender and finished confidently to restore our two-goal cushion. 👏 2-4

Second Half

At 57 minutes, we produced some excellent football, playing in triangles and passing our way through Ardeer. Declan squared the ball for Olly, who struck cleanly from 15 yards to make it 2-5. ⚽️

Three minutes later, Declan was at it again. He weaved his way through two or three players, drove into the space and smashed home from 18 yards. 💥 2-6

At 71 minutes, a long ball through the middle caused us problems. Charlie had a player closing him down but didn’t get the shout to let him know. Ardeer won possession and finished past Harry to make it 3-6.

FULL TIME

A really strong and committed performance from the boys, with some standout moments of passing, pressing and finishing throughout the game.

Plenty to be pleased about and plenty still to work on as we continue preparing for the season ahead.

So that's a wrap for the Colts for season 2025/2026!!

We've had a great time being part of NASA for our first two seasons at 11 a side. Massive thanks to North Ayrshire Soccer Association for supporting and looking after us.

For season 2026/2027 we are really looking forward to seeing how the boys progress as we move over to Ayrshire Youth Football League .

Really exciting times as we bolster the squad with some new (& old 😉) faces.

The boys had a really positive end to the season which was fully deserved from the work they have put in and the progress they have made as a team.

We were slightly disappointed to lose out in the league cup Semi final but then followed that with an amazing trip to Blackpool.

Memories made for life off the pitch, but on the pitch was pretty good as well!!!
We narrowly missed out on a Plate final spot with a tight semi-final loss. We were gutted, but what a brilliant time was had by all the boys, coaches and parents.

Next up was the Club Presentation night, which is an amazing celebration of the scale and the positive environment Glenburn MWFC is as a club.

We had our individual prize winners, but massive credit to the full squad who have been a part of the Colts this year.

Our final competitive games were last weekend with a trip to Stirling University to compete in the Wallace Cup.
We were treated to scorching heat in a great environment to play football.
This time we went one better and fully deservedly got to the Plate Final after only missing out on the main final in a group head to head result.
We lost out in a really tight game to Linlithgow Rose by one goal.
The boys were so unlucky and deserved more, but they should be so proud of themselves.

So we finished up this week in the basking sunshine at ShootSoccer.co.uk for a 7 a side session and the boys had great fun to finish.

A few weeks off then back into tournament season before the AYFL KO in August.

Massive thanks to the boys or all of their efforts this year and to the parents for all of their support!!

⚽️ BLACKPOOL 2026 ⚽️

As the sun sets on a fantastic weekend, our Blackpool 2026 football tournament has come to an end.

What a weekend it has been — both on and off the pitch!

On the pitch, there were plenty of highs, a few lows, and lots of lessons learned. Most importantly, every single one of our boys did themselves proud. They showed great character, teamwork, and determination throughout the tournament and should hold their heads high after some brilliant performances.

Off the pitch, it was just as memorable. Parents and coaches enjoyed some well-earned downtime together, making the most of the sunshine, good company, and a few refreshments along the way! ☀️🍻

Pleasure Beach and Blackpool itself were an absolute blast. In fact, some of the boys even managed to get part of Blackpool Pier temporarily locked down after an unfortunate misunderstanding involving a water gun... we'll leave the full story for another day! 😬😂

We'll share a full tournament recap later this week, but tonight we want to recognise three incredible men who helped make the weekend possible.

After a weekend packed with football, fun, laughter, and maybe not quite enough sleep, we think a few early nights are in order for both players and parents before training resumes on Wednesday! 😴

After an “early bed” last night, the boys are ready to go for their first matches of the 2026 Blackpool Tournament.

Disappointing end to the boys cup run today as we went 5-1 down to Valspar 2012
A bit gutted as today we weren't really at it, which is unlike us of late, but we seem to have run out of steam.
The first half was really even, if a bit frantic, as both teams struggled a bit to relax and get the ball down and play.
It was us who took the lead though, from a great through ball to Declan to coolly slot beyond the advancing keeper.
We were a bit too relaxed though from KO and immediately allowed Valspar to equalise with a shot from outside the box.
Both teams had a few chances in the first half but could not quite put them away to take control of the game.
Half Time 1-1.
The halftime team talk was to try to play more and take advantage of the 2nd half downward slope.
After a bright first 10 mins though, we lost all shape and completely allowed Valspar to take control.
We had a few chances but could not find the net. Valspar did and so momentum stayed with them most of the 2nd half.
Based on the 2nd half Valspar 2012 were deserved winners and we wish them best of luck in the final.

Very disappointed for the boys but probably because we have been on such a great run and today hasn't been like us.

Last season we were not anywhere near the results we have had this year and to get to semi final is a great achievement and sign of how far the boys have come.

No final this year but last league game this week then off to Blackpool for tourney.

Lots to look forward to for the boys next season and interesting to see how much more progress we can make.
