Ride Report: RVJ Beach Café - Sat 29th August 2026....
.. Summer holidays have seen some very low turnouts and this was no exception. For anyone reading this: our rides are open to all, come and join us, give it a go. Obviously we'd love to see some juniors as well, so kids, get your adults out on a ride!
With an unsettled forecast a café ride was proposed and Beach Café is great for juniors and adults - Frederick's Ice Cream on offer, great cakes, breakfast barms, and more, it has something for everyone.
Running the proposed route in reverse mixed the ride up a little and meant Molly, our youngest rider, didn't have to face the challenging hill of Hennel Lane at the end of the ride.
The weather was unsettled but surprisingly warm, with only very light smatterings of rain. A steady pace was put up and soon we were along the south bank of the Ribble, over the cobbled bridge, onto the Guild Wheel, around the north side of the docks, and then settling down for treats at the café.
A choo choo train on the docks before we left for home, and then theough Avenham, over the New Tram Bridge, and following the Old Tram Road and former railway line back to Bamber Bridge.
Our rides are led by Ribble Valley Juniors adult members who are British Cycling qualified Ride Leaders, and are specifically designed with younger riders in mind, using as much safe cycle infrastructure, off-road routes, and quiet roads as possible, though we attempt to keep the latter to the minimum.
Our next ride will be poated soon so follow our page. Also, sign up to Letsride.co.uk if you haven't already.

Well its a wrap. Lovely weather, lovely group of young people (thanks to the parents for bringing them and encouraging them each week). The 2026 Monday Skills sessions rounded off with a skills night and the time trial saw some great final session efforts. Lots of PBs. Brilliant to see everyone who came in 2025 beating their PBs in 2026. For those in 2026 there were some massive improvements in times, we look forward to seeing you in 2027 (we will try and avoid running into the first week of school holidays).
Fastest lap of the 2026 season goes to Lucy who averaged 22mph over the 1.5km circuit from a standing start (that is very impressive - well done Lucy). Special mention also for Sophia who improved her time by almost 3 minutes in 5 weeks, amazing!
We will share some photos later this week in-line with the consent forms, if that has changed please just drop us a message.

Last week tonight for our Monday Skills. It's activity week...test all those skills. Usual 6:30pm start. This week isn't ideal for newcomers. Weather looks great so plenty of fluids and hopefully some PBs for the last time trial. 👍👍

A rare opportunity this one - don't miss out...
..join Ribble Valley Juniors for a ride to Sunderland Point. For us to put this ride on, it relies on a happy coincidence of tide times and weather.
We will be visiting Sunderland point that is cut off twice daily by tides. Formerly a port, we will reach it via a mix of cycleway, quiet roads, and unmade bridleway along the foreshore. This ride is not a novice ride but it is a good one!
Meet at the free park and ride off J34 of the M6 and departing at 9:30 AM. Please note - for tide reasons the departure time is fixed and we will be departing at that time so the recommendation is to arrive early PRIOR to 9:15 for pre ride briefings etc etc etc.
Bring helmets, snacks, drinks, a smile, a spare tube for your bike(s), and all riding youngsters must be accompanied by a riding adult - be mindful of the forecast - dress appropriately, bring fluids, and wear sunscreen. Meet BEFORE 9:15AM for a 9:30AM departure.
Follow the link for full details and sign on - we look forward to seeing you. Please message with any questions or drop them in the comments below and we'll get back to you.

A big well done for super times on a very windy night. To give you some context the last half of the time trial is mainly uphill and into what was a very strong Easterly wind tonight! Well done everyone, especially Sophia who smashed her PB even with the wind! See you all next week for the final week and our activity based session.

3 more sessions including tonight. Lovely weather tonight, please bring drinks.
Monday 6 July and we are all set for our cycle skills coaching for 5-17 year olds. For those who haven't been before you are more than welcome, we support skills for children that can already ride during these sessions where we build their confidence and ability with a focus on fun. They'll need a roadworthy bike and a helmet and will ride on a traffic free dedicated cycle circuit.
6;30pm start (little earlier for consent forms on the first week).
The Cycle Circuit, UCLAN Sports Arena, Sir Tom Benson Way, Preston
