💜 U15s Purples 1–4 Brighouse Jnrs Alphas 💜

On a day where we didn’t get off to the best of starts logistically, we welcomed Brighouse Jnrs Alphas to Ponte Park.

Despite spending the majority of the first 40 minutes in the opponents’ half and creating the majority of the chances, the Purples went into half-time 2–0 down. Brighouse were clinical with their opportunities, while we just couldn’t find the finish.

Their first goal came from a cross that deceived the Ponte keeper and ended up in the back of the net at the far post.

Their second came from the penalty spot after an accidental handball was adjudged to be a penalty.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with the Purples creating chances but struggling to capitalise. A change in formation and a couple of positional switches helped Ponte get a better grip on the game, and we got ourselves back into it thanks to a calm finish from Georgia. ⚽️

With the wind behind them, Brighouse then made the most of playing balls in and behind our defence, adding a third before eventually making it 4–1 with just five minutes remaining.

A game where the Purples were nowhere near their best, but still created enough chances to take something from it, ultimately ended in defeat. The difference was simple — Brighouse were clinical, and Ponte weren’t.

Despite the result, the girls deserve huge praise for their efforts. With no substitutes, they worked tirelessly from start to finish and never stopped battling. 💜👏

💜 Drighlington 0–1 U15s Purple 💜

Our first game in Division 2 of the WRGFL, and what a way to start — a win! 💜⚽

The first half was super scrappy, with both teams giving the ball away too easily and chances few and far between. It definitely had the feel of a first game of the season!

The second half was better, although still a little scrappy. Some outstanding saves from Lenni kept the clean sheet, while Sadie, Kendal, Amelia and Georgia were absolutely rock solid at the back.

In midfield, Farrah, Evie, Ruby, Jessie and Princess worked tirelessly up and down the pitch, and it looked like it was going to take something special to break the deadlock.

And it did! 👏

After a slight change in formation, with Savannah dropping into an attacking midfield role, she picked the ball up deep, drove down the left and delivered a perfect cross for Amelia to finish underneath the keeper with just 10 minutes to go! ⚽💜

A fitting reward for both forwards, who had run their blood to water all game.

Overall, it was a scrappy game, but one we can definitely improve on. Georgia and Kendal both had superb games at the back, but it was Ruby who had an outstanding game in the middle, breaking up attack after attack, and she deservedly took GOTM. 👏

Lenni picked up OGOTM after a string of superb saves to keep us in the game and secure that clean sheet. 🧤💜

A huge shout-out to Amelia and Princess, who played against their old team for the first time. Amelia scoring the winner makes it even more special 💜

One game, one win, one clean sheet.
Plenty to improve on, but a fantastic start to life in Division 2!
