Match report - Athena’s

Yesterday our Athena’s took on their first game in the prem division vs Washington Wolves.

The Athena’s got into the game well and played some great link up play and passing. The girls making use of space and picking the correct pass.

Washington wolves were a very physical and athletic side and it was a great competitive game of football from both sides.

In the first half the Athena’s had 5 1-1 chances with the keeper to which the opposition keeper kept the Athena’s at bay. In every chance it came from link up play which was then a through ball on goal.

In the first half the Athena’s were on top, with the Athena’s keeper only needing to fully come into action for a double save at the end of the first half.

Washington wolves came out second half playing some great aggressive football going forward and capitalising due to their pacey winger and forward.

The Athena’s battled till the final whistle but even after multiple chances just could not convert it into the back of the net.

The game ended in defeat but overall the girls played some good football but still lots to work on in training.

Match report - Ophelia’s

Darlington Locomotives vs Horden Ophelias

Today was the first game of the season for our Ophelias and all the girls were excited to get started.
The girls started the game exceptionally with the midfield 3 of Sophia, Reeny and Georgia along with Libby leading the line. The intent to win the ball back was evident from the start and we had some great passages of play creating chances. But when Darlingtons keeper handled the ball outside the box Hannah stepped up to take it, she took a couple steps back then unleashed a curling effort high to the keepers right ⚽️

The Ophelias kept the high intensity press and with confidence high we dominated the following 15 mins with 1 way traffic.

Libby scored a contender for goal of the season already today when she controlled the ball out the air on her right foot laid it off the Sophia who then played a ball through, Libby ran onto it continuing her run then fiercely struck from the edge of the box straight past the keeper ⚽️

We made a couple changes at half time also changing formation as we had to soak up some pressure at the end of the first half and with us conceding from a long range effort beating Lexi in the bottom corner.

Second half began the same as the first ended with Darlington on top trying to find an equaliser, Lexi played well today and made some crucial saves keeping our slender lead.

The girls battled hard today and fought right to the end. I was pleased with all girls individual performances aswell as playing as a team working hard for eachother.

Hestia’s - match report

We welcomed new side to the league Peterlee Town to the welfare!

A strong start to the season saw the Hestias get off to winning ways! Peterlee town only being able to field 7, we matched the same numbers to keep it a competitive game of football.

Mena opened the scoring after a few minutes with a brilliant strike. ⚽️

Emily doubled the lead moments later assisted by Ava ⚽️

A great bit of pressure continued in the Hestias favour with Darcie scoring the third with a fantastic out the box finish! ⚽️

This continued in the Hestias favour with Darcie, getting her brace! ⚽️

Nirvana then saw her shot from around 30 yards saved by the keeper before it trickled over the line. ⚽️

Half time

Second half saw the Hestias sit back a little bit and saw a couple of good chances for Peterlee Town to attempt to get back in the game, Billie keeping the clean sheet!

Another chance for the Hestias when Ivy then took a brilliant freekick, her efforts hit the post from 30 yards!

Our final goal of the afternoon saw Ruby ping a strike from outside box! ⚽️
