WE’VE BEEN NOMINATED! 🧡
We are incredibly proud to announce that Oxford Phoenix have been nominated for the BBC Oxfordshire Make a Difference Awards in the Active category!
What started as a simple idea, bringing people together through football, has grown into something far bigger than we could ever have imagined.
Oxford Phoenix provides a space where displaced people from across our community can come together, play football, build friendships, and feel a sense of belonging.
The football is important, but it has always been about more than football 🧡⚽️
Alongside the football, we support our players in other areas of their lives. We help with CVs and job applications, employment opportunities, language support and homework, while creating a community where people can ask for help and support one another.
And this is what Oxford Phoenix is. A place where people are welcomed. A place where backgrounds, languages and experiences don’t matter. When they step onto the pitch, they are simply teammates.
To be recognised by the BBC alongside so many incredible people and organisations in Oxfordshire is truly an honour.
This nomination belongs to every player who has worn the Phoenix shirt, every volunteer who has given their time, every organisation that has supported us, and every person who has believed in what we are trying to build.
Thank you for believing in Oxford Phoenix.

RESULT. 2-1 W.
Oxford Phoenix start the season with a win despite being hit by an Oxford monsoon.
Phoenix went 1-0 down after a contentious penalty was awarded for handball in the opening 10 minutes. The Letcombe number 10 coolly sent Darian the wrong way from the spot.
Phoenix had a number of chances in the first half, but just couldn't get the goal over the line.
After an inspiring team talk from Manager denis_mao, Phoenix got themselves back into the game creating chance after chance.
Phoenix equalised in the 70th minute as أنس's sensational first touch allowed him to play the ball to Dave, who jinked inside before smashing an unstoppable shot from 20 yards past the Letcombe keeper.
Phoenix continued pushing and were able to grab the winner 5 minutes later after the high press lead to a mistake which allowed Jamie 249 to square the ball for the onrushing Babo to smash home on his debut for the club.

Be a fan. Be a supporter. You can purchase your own Phoenix shirt via the link (also in bio).
All proceeds go back into the running of the club and help support on pitch bookings, transport, and everything else to allow us to keep supporting our young stars.

For Musab.
Oxford Phoenix are the inaugural Musab Haroun Memorial Trophy winners with a 7-0 victory over Union Street 🏆
Both teams played football in a spirit befitting such an occasion, but Phoenix’s tireless energy just proved too much.

🏅Player of the match -
An incredibly well deserved award for Hasabo. Alongside his five goals, Hasabo helped immeasurably off the pitch in supporting his brothers and helping the community during this difficult time.
Thank you to all who came to support Musab and the team. Seeing such a large crowd for such a special day meant a lot to everyone involved at Oxford Phoenix.
A huge thank you to Musab’s brother Nasorudin who was fantastic on the pitch and helped award the trophy to the winning team. We hope that by using football to bring everyone together it will help you through this painful period.
And finally, thank you to our brothers at Union Street who helped made lur first season happen. Without your support, perhaps a league club would still just be an idea. With you, we are now looking forward to our second season. Good luck this year! 🧡💚

Incredible to have our club featured by the BBC. Well done to the whole Oxford Phoenix FC team from players, volunteers, coaches, drivers, etc. We couldn’t do what we do without so many people who care!
The comments are a stark reminder and what we are fighting against. Love will always win 🧡

The Musab Haroun Memorial Trophy 🏆
Earlier this week, we received the devastating news that one of our players and original members of the club passed away at the age of just 19. Our community is still in shock and our thoughts are with them, and the wider Sudanese community at this difficult time 🫂🇸🇩🐦🔥
Musab was a brilliant footballer and an incredible person. Kind, supportive, and a bit cheeky. He would always call everyone ‘man like’ - even the coaches - so let’s celebrate ‘man like Musab’ through football - something that gave him respite after his harrowing journey as a 14 year old to the UK. Something he always held dear, and something that he adored.
He scored a very cool penalty against Union Street in a 9 a side tournament hosted by Union Street back in 2023. So it’s only right to schedule them as opponents for this game.
The two teams will battle it out for the Musab Haroun Memorial Trophy 🏆
Donations will help the family massively during this incredibly difficult time with many members of his family stuck in Sudan fearing for their safety every day. Donations can be sent to his brother’s account below.
Acc name: Nasorudin Haroun

The match will take place at North Hinksey Rugby Football Club, North Hinksey, Oxford, OX2 0NA on Tuesday 18 August with a 6:30pm KO. There is free parking on site next to the tennis pitches 🅿️
Musab was laid to rest just down the road at Botley Cemetery on North Hinksey Lane - so please feel free to pay your respects on your way or if you turn up early.
If you knew Musab, please come down and support on what we hope will be a brilliant evening of remembrance 🤲
Please share with friends and family and anyone who knew Musab 🧡
