🔎 It gives us and our brains a sense of choice, of options
🔎 It helps us move towards that feeling/emotion/behaviour being something we do (not who we are)

🌱 Try - adding it into your day to day language! And/or add it into your language when describing a friend or family member's behaviour or emotion

💭 Reflect on - what are you "doing" that you may currently see as something you "are"?
👉eg, Instead of - I'm an anxious person so it's not easy to do this presentation I've got to give tomorrow
👉 I'm doing anxiety about this presentation - I can do calm and confident instead

🪻Being mindful and aware of mental health is one thing... Being mindful and aware of what is a normal, everyday emotion or experience is another...

🪻And if you notice you are using "therapy speak" or a "diagnosis" to describe yourself, your behaviours, others around you.... How might that be affecting someone who has a neurodivergent diagnosis?

🪻Looking at the rising use of "therapy speak" in everyday language this week

🪻Dr Garfinkle-Crowell was talking about this on Radio 4's Woman's Hour last week; the rise of language that used to be confined to the therapy room (eg, "trauma", "triggered", "OCD", "my anxiety, my depression") now being used to describe someone's everyday experiences

🪻With "Dr Google" and social media "diagnosis" posts (the 'do you ever x, y, z?' type), it's ever more easy to self-diagnose

🪻However I would argue that only a psychiatrist or psychologist can diagnose and there is a huge spectrum within any "label"!

🪻Try these tips on page 2 to support your children and/or friends and family

🪻I strongly believe an unrealistic strive for perfectionism is at the root of so much anxiety

🔎 Why - taking inspiration from the Pareto Principle (80% of results come from 20% of efforts), doing something to 80% is often better than striving for a "perfect" 100%

🌱 Try - focus on the 80%! Be kind to yourself, 80% is enough so let go of the 20%

💭 Reflect on - how would it feel to focus on the 80% as a starting point? How would doing / feeling / being x 80% of the time feel? Can you accept that sometimes life gets in the way (ie, that 20%) and that's ok?
👉eg, this week you've been to the gym 80% of the times you wanted to - that's great, give yourself a pat on the back!

🪻Some of my favourite Japanese wisdom to help with perfectionism

🪻How can anything be "perfect" if we take the view all things are imperfect, impermanent and incomplete?

🪻Like snow falling on a mountain - every snowflake is unique (so imperfect), snow only falls so far down the mountain (so incomplete), snow will melt as the sun rises (so impermanent)

🪻Let's look at perfectionism this week

🪻Never mind the fact that, in my opinion, there is no such thing as "perfect" - everything and everyone is utterly unique

🪻Practice brings and makes permanent!

🪻So that new habit you want to start or that new skill you want to develop?
Start and practice it to make it stick!
