Lamb & Flag FC welcomed Royal Oak FC for a competitive Sunday morning fixture on 23rd August, with a 10:45am kick-off.
Lamb & Flag started the game brightly and immediately looked the more comfortable side in possession. Some excellent football early on caused Royal Oak plenty of problems, with Lamb & Flag moving the ball well and creating pressure in the Royal Oak half.
As the first half progressed, Royal Oak gradually grew into the contest and began creating opportunities of their own. However, Danny Hammonds was in inspired form between the sticks for Lamb & Flag, pulling off a number of incredible saves to keep the scores level.
Royal Oak then came agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock, first striking the post before following it up with another effort that rattled the crossbar.
Despite those chances, Lamb & Flag remained the dominant side for large periods of the opening 45 minutes, but neither team could find the breakthrough.
Half-Time: Lamb & Flag 0–0 Royal Oak
The second half followed a very similar pattern, with Lamb & Flag continuing to look the more threatening side and Royal Oak struggling to get close to the hosts.
Lamb & Flag continued to play some good football and looked in control of the game, but football can be a cruel game.
Eventually, a looping ball into the box caused problems for Danny Hammonds, who struggled to claim it. The loose ball fell kindly to a Royal Oak player, who reacted quickest to fire home the rebound and give Royal Oak a 1–0 lead, despite the goal coming very much against the run of play.
Lamb & Flag pushed for an equaliser but were unable to find the finish required, as Royal Oak held on to take the victory.
Full-Time: Lamb & Flag 0–1 Royal Oak
A frustrating result for Lamb & Flag, who will feel they deserved more from the game after dominating large spells and creating plenty of opportunities.
Despite the defeat, there were plenty of positives to take, with good football, a strong competitive performance and valuable minutes in the legs ahead of the new season.
A 1–0 defeat, but plenty of encouragement for the season ahead. Thanks to Stockingford Royal Oak we wish you all the best for the upcoming season, a great bunch of lads 💙⚽ Adam NelmesJohnathan Clark

Today the lads travelled over to cov to face the new pippin reserves continuing with our passing game the lads started well knocking the ball around the way we can. As a result chances soon followed with George Simmons testing their keeper. Our pressure finally was rewarded when Jude Barnetts free kick hit the woodwork and fell to Marcus to score in what hopefully will be his first of many. Just before half time a lapse on our part led to pippin equalising. Second half the lads didn't let that get to them continuing our style when we were soon back in the lead when Kaine scored a bullet header. We controlled the game well and added to our lead when a good press allowed Jack to intercept a back pass and roll it in for the third. All the best to the pippin for the season ahead as for us keep playing and creating and we will go far UTF. Johnathan ClarkAdam Nelmes

Today the lads travelled away to Coundon having one manager in the us and another away in England. Dan took the reigns and having the bare 11 with only 1 sub available. The game started slow we created some early chances including hitting the bar. With a new team the errors are inevitable and one cost us the lead. Coundon then doubled the lead after a good spell of possession we lost the ball and conceded a second. After the restart more of the same playing some nice stuff and creating plenty of chances however Isaac got us back into the game with a well taken driven shot into the bottom corner. With having a depleted squad fitness was always going to be an issue and Coundon then went on to add two late goals. We wish Coundon all the best for the upcoming season nice bunch of lads. As for us big thanks to the lads that turned up more mintues in the tank and playing a nice passing game. We are creating plenty of chances and once the errors are gone we will be fine. We keep moving forwards boys UTF. Adam Nelmes Johnathan Clark
