On Wednesday the club took part in the National Ice Centre family fun day where public skaters can try out all the ice sports you can undertake at the NIC.

Coach Mandy and a number of our younger skaters helped demo what short track speed skating is and helped our guests, whilst Helen amd Sarah helped on the desk and with taking photos.

We hope those who tried it out enjoyed the session .

This weeks ends David’s week at a training camp alongside other Polish junior skaters in Krynica-Zdroj.

On ice training and also off ice activities he had a fantastic time and learnt a lot.

What a fantastic week our skaters had in Oberstdorf with five days of on ice training, and our skaters also taking part in the mountain run and the Nordic biathlon (laser shooting + kick biking).

Along with a visit to the lake and hiking up the Nebelhorn, they were joined by some of those from other clubs too and all had a great time.

They finished with a two‑day competition where pbs were achieved and some great results too.

Fern came 8th overall in the women’s racing (7th in 1000m and 11th in the 500m) and 1st overall for the Senior Women including the biathlon/mountain run. Amazing result for Fern! She also achieved a new PB in her 500m!

Georgie achieved a new pb in both her 500m and 1000m.

She finished 2nd overall behind Fern in the Senior Women’s group.

Emma returning to short track and Oberstdorf this summer after a number of years away at Uni came 16th 1000m and 22nd 500m. She came 6th overall for the Senior women.

Isaac came 2nd in the men’s 500m final in oberstdorf behind Peter Riches.
He also finished 16th in the 1000m. He finished 4th overall in the senior men’s racing.
However he also took part in the mountain run/biathlon and finished 3rd overall.

Well done to all our members, those skating and those returning to Oberstdorf and supporting our skaters. Well done to those at Altrincham Speed Skating Club, Cambridge Ice Skating Club and Aldwych Speed Club for their results too.

It’s not just our older skaters busy on the ice during the summer.

One of our younger skaters Maddie is on a family holiday to Calgary and is taking part in a camp at the Olympic Oval.

We hope you have lots of fun and look forward to hearing all about it.

Our skaters took part in the Oberstdorf mountain run today alongside the other UK skaters .

August updates:

A reminder there is no on ice training this weekend or next weekend due to camps, competitions and coaches holidays.

Over this weekend we see our skaters Fern, Georgie, Isaac and Emma travelling with Mohawk Frankie to Oberstdorf for the annual camp and competition which takes place next weekend.

We also have David heading to Poland to join other polish juniors for a two weeks camp with both on and off ice activities.

Good luck also to those from other UK clubs attending Oberstdorf - I saw Altrincham are represented by Oliver and Isla. I expect Aldwych are too (I can’t see a skater list online yet) - if so, we wish you all good luck as well!!

Shannon will be stepping down from the committee and we thank her for the time and support this past year.

Exciting new additions to our committee for the 2026/2027 season:

Cansu Dogan will be joining us this year on the committee.

We also have a new skaters representative joining the committee - Ferny Taylor.

Our committee work hard throughout the year helping the club to run smoothly and I want to thank everyone for all their time, effort and support over the last year.

Our skaters had lots of fun in Ghent last weekend at the Easter Cup - some of whom were taking part in their first International.

Here are our highlights:

Eli managed to get a new pb in his 500m and did some great racing over the weekend.

Woody has a new pb in the 500m and in his 777m, and at his first international really enjoyed making new friends and had lots of fun with his teammates.

Isla finished 14th overall in the 777 and and the 500m getting better with each race - also getting PBs in every race but 2! She had a great competition and fought hard with some lovely overtaking.

Fern finished 8th in her 500m and 1000m and made the 1500m
super final 2 coming first in her race. Showing again her 1500m is her strong distance!

Maddie in her first international really stepped up showing how much her racing is improving! She achieved a new PB in her 222m, and finishing 7th overall out of 15 and coming 3rd overall for junior F girls.

Many of our skaters also took part in the relay.

Woody and Isla alongside Charlie from Cambridge Ice Skating Club and Daniel from Aldwych Speed Club came 1st in their C/D 3000m Relay group leading out from the start, finishing 4th in the overall classification.

Zayah (ALD) and one of the Nottingham skaters were also part of the winning E/F 2000m relay team with two other international skaters in their Group finishing 1st and then 1st overall in the classification.

Maddie raced her first relay at the competition which she loved, and in her team were two YDS Hasselt skaters and a skater from Short Track Club Kristallijn. They came 2nd in their E/F relay group finishing 4th overall. Well done!

Ferns team took part in the 3000m in a mixed team called the European Leftovers (great name) coming 2nd in their race.

Thanks to all the parents and coach Mandy for supporting the team last weekend and the skaters from
Cambridge and Aldwych who helped make it a fun competition for everyone.

All our skaters had lots of fun - well done to the organisers and volunteers and we look forward to next year!
