We're very proud to say that Newcastle Tennis Club will again be hosting an Tennis Ulster Junior Tournament, with the generous support of Fraser Homes!

Ulster Junior Tournaments are hosted by different clubs each year and last year Newcastle Tennis Club hosted a tournament for the first time. That was a major success and we're delighted to be able to host again, this time a '500' tournament, which is an even bigger event than the '200' version of 2025.

This is a unique opportunity to see high class tennis, with some of the brightest prospects from all over Northern Ireland coming to compete across 4 age categories.

Club Members and members of the public are encouraged to come along and watch and support the NTC players involved.

Please note that this weekend courts will be in use for tournament play throughout and therefore unavailable for normal bookings.

Many thanks to everyone who came along for the mixed-doubles tournament last weekend! Thanks to expert organisation by club member Carlos, each of the 8 pairs were provided with a printed sheet of fixtures and played each other in a series of quick-fire ‘fast4’ sets. We were fortunate to have good weather and there was plenty of high quality rallies. Congratulations to the winners Kenneth and Lauren who won all 7 of their matches!

We’re grateful to Carlos for organising the tournament, and we hope we can arrange similar tournaments again in the future.

Many thanks to everyone who came down for our Newcastle Tennis Club Open Day last Saturday! The lovely weather helped ensure a great turn out of both club regulars and people coming along for the first time. We're delighted that several new people have since signed up as new members. With our enhanced facilities (new floodlights and a new electronic fob system) and summer just starting, this is the perfect time to join.

We're grateful to coach Sam and his team for organising games on all four courts, and to the committee members and club players who came along and made it such a fun day for all.

For anyone thinking about joining Newcastle Tennis Club, have a watch of this video to hear a bit about the health benefits of racket sports, tennis in particular!

"Tennis players live 9.7 years longer than sedentary people.

Not 9.7 months. 9.7 years. Nearly a decade.

The Copenhagen City Heart Study tracked 8,577 people for 25 years and ranked every sport by how much life it adds.

Badminton: 6.2 years. Soccer: 4.7. Cycling: 3.7. Swimming: 3.4. Jogging: 3.2.

Tennis almost triples jogging.

A separate study of 80,000 adults found racket sports cut all-cause mortality by 47% and cardiovascular death by 56%. Swimming hit 41%. Aerobics hit 36%."
