Holytown Colts 2015 Girls

An early start for the girls today as we travelled away to Falkirk — and they certainly made the journey worthwhile!

From the first whistle, both teams came out ready for a battle. The first half was a fantastic contest, with both sides creating chances and playing some great football. It was end-to-end at times, with neither team willing to back down!

But the girls came out stronger in the second half!

We continued to press, move the ball brilliantly and work for each other and eventually got the breakthrough we deserved when Libby found the back of the net!

The girls weren’t finished there! We kept the pressure on and our attacking play continued to cause problems. Maria was fouled inside the box, giving us a penalty.

Up stepped our captain Olivia… 🎯

Falkirk kept pushing right until the final whistle, but our girls stood strong. When a Falkirk effort looked destined for the back of the net, defender Lily produced a brilliant goal-line clearance to keep our clean sheet intact!

What a moment. What a team effort. ❤️🖤

Today was about hard work, determination, teamwork and playing football the right way — and every single girl should be incredibly proud of their performance.

⚽️❤️🖤 FRIDAY NIGHT FRIENDLY 🖤❤️⚽️

The girls travelled to Coatbridge last night to take on Coatbridge City in a friendly and it was another strong performance from the Colts.

Holytown made the perfect start, finding the back of the net inside the opening two minutes. The early goal settled the girls and they quickly found their rhythm, moving the ball well and creating plenty of opportunities.

The pressure continued throughout the first half, with the girls adding another five goals before the break to take a commanding 6–0 lead into half time.

The second half saw more of the same. The girls continued to play some excellent football, moving the ball with purpose and showing great communication and teamwork. They added another three goals after the break to win the game and also keeping a clean sheet.

It’s great to see the work being done in training coming through on match day. The girls are continuing to develop their passing, movement, communication and understanding of the game and those improvements are becoming more evident every week.

The team also rotated positions throughout the game, giving the girls valuable experience of different roles and helping them develop a better understanding of each position on the pitch.

👏🏼 A special well done to the referee from Coatbridge City, who took charge of her first ever game. She did a fantastic job and deserves plenty of credit for stepping up and getting involved.

Overall, another positive evening for the Colts, with plenty of football played, goals scored and most importantly, more development for the girls.

The girls now have a break from league action tomorrow due to the half marathon taking place in NLC, so enjoy the Sunday long lie girls (and parents) 😴

🔴⚫️ FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON ⚫️🔴

Today we travelled to Broadwood for our first 9s league game of the season against Cumbernauld Colts and what a start it was — a win and a clean sheet!

From the very start, the girls were ready to work hard and show exactly what they are capable of. We had lots of possession, controlled the tempo of the game and looked strong all over the pitch. Every girl knew her role and more importantly, trusted the girl beside her.

The teamwork on display was fantastic. The girls supported each other, communicated, worked for one another and kept pushing right until the final whistle. When one player needed help, another was there. When we lost the ball, we worked together to win it back. That togetherness and determination was a huge part of our performance today.

We scored some fantastic, well-worked goals and were unlucky not to add more, with the opposition keeper making some excellent saves. The girls never stopped looking for the next opportunity and showed great determination throughout the game.

A brilliant team performance and a fantastic way to begin our league campaign!
