For over 40 years, the Janet Lomas School of Dancing has forged a reputation across the Greater Manchester area as a leading provider of high quality ballet tuition from beginners to advanced levels. Students travel to the school from across Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Cheshire to receive their specialist training. The school's training ensures that each student receives professional, technical tuition of the highest standard. Do you know that flat ballet shoes are different from how they used to be?

Ballet shoes used to feature a hard leather sole but nowadays are made from a soft, pliable suede sole. The shoes featured in this video are both made by the wonderful Freed of London - one is a pre-1970s Freed shoe, and the other is a current Freed model.

This September we are excited to welcome Anna McBride to our regular team of online teachers at the Janet Lomas School of Dancing! Miss Anna will be teaching a range of online classes – PBT, non-syllabus ballet and private classes.

Miss Anna is an experienced teacher who has been teaching ballet for over 20 years. She feels incredibly fortunate to have spent her career inspiring and supporting young dancers as they develop their technique, confidence and love for ballet. Miss Anna holds her Licentiate in Imperial Classical Ballet, RAD Teaching Certificate and Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) Level 3 teaching qualification, alongside qualifications in Tap, Modern, National and Disco.

Miss Anna currently teaches vocational ballet at Liverpool Theatre School, is the ballet teacher at Ballet Boost Manchester, and across a number of dance schools in Manchester and Liverpool, working with students from graded through to vocational levels.

Miss Anna has supported dancers preparing for competitions including Ballet Grand Prix Scotland, Ballet Britain and Dance World Cup 2026 in Dublin and has also lectured in ballet at Cumbria Class Competitions, working with dancers aged 6 through to 18+.

Her teaching ethos is that dance is for everyone. She believes in creating a positive, supportive and inspiring environment where every student feels encouraged to develop their skills, express themselves and achieve their own personal goals. Miss Anna is passionate about nurturing the next generation of dancers and sharing the joy and discipline of ballet that has been such an important part of her own life.

Are you a complete beginner wanting to start ballet for the first time? Or maybe you're someone looking at refreshing the basics after many years away from ballet?

If the answer is yes, you're in the right place!

Our four-week Introduction to Ballet course is back again in September – but hurry, as half of the spaces are already booked!

We developed this short course as many adult beginner ballet classes are often not truly a 'beginner' class, meaning that the absolute beginner dancer is sadly left struggling at the back of the class when everyone else is already familiar with the basics. However in this course, we take everything right from the start and with absolutely no prior experience necessary, everyone is in the same situation. The course is also strictly for over 18s only, so you are learning amongst like-minded adult beginner ballet dancers.

It's the perfect starting point in ballet whether you're looking to start with a solely ballet focus, or use ballet to help with your sports training. As it's online, you can join us from anywhere in the world 🌍
