Meanwhile, Barcelona have given no indication that they will return for Rashford before the transfer deadline, despite their previous interest in the forward.

Rashford has also been handed the No.9 shirt for Manchester United, another indication that he is being considered as part of Carrick's plans for the season. 👀

Michael Carrick has made it clear what he expects from Manchester United ahead of our first Premier League game of the season at Old Trafford.

Following last weekend's disappointing defeat to Hull City, Carrick wants an immediate response from his side in front of the home supporters.

🗣 “We want a good performance and a win, obviously. The first home game of the season is one we really look forward to, and with the supporters coming, we're massively looking forward to the game. We had a setback last week and we want to get back to playing well and winning football matches.”

The head coach knows another difficult challenge awaits, with Ipswich arriving at Old Trafford after an impressive opening-weekend result themselves.

“It’s another tough game again. They obviously had a big result last week as well, so it'll be another challenge for us. But yeah, massively looking forward to it.”

Carrick also highlighted the strength of his squad and suggested there are several players pushing hard for a place in the starting XI.

🗣 Carrick added: “We've got a squad to choose from. We've got a good squad, and we could pick a variety of combinations within the team. We'll pick a team for the week and, yeah, certainly the boys are massively in contention.”

Manchester United fans will have to wait a little longer to see new signing Carlos Baleba make his debut.

Michael Carrick has confirmed that the Cameroon international will not be available for Sunday's Premier League clash against Ipswich Town, after arriving at United from Brighton & Hove Albion with a minor ankle issue.

Carrick revealed that the injury was already known to the club before completing the transfer and insisted there is no major concern.

🗣️ “He's got a little ankle issue, so maybe a couple of weeks or so, maybe three weeks, but we'll see. But we knew that before, so it's no major issue. It will be great to have him back.”

When asked whether Baleba, or fellow absentee Amad, could return before the extended international break in September, Carrick remained cautious.

🗣️ “We'll wait and see, we're hopeful but I don't want to put any deadlines on it just yet.”

So, while Baleba won't feature against Ipswich, it doesn't sound like United supporters will have to wait too long to see the club's new midfield enforcer in competitive action.

The 22-year-old will, however, be at Old Trafford on Sunday for United's first home game of the 2026/27 Premier League season.

And there will be a special moment before kick-off. 👀

🇨🇲 Carlos Baleba will be officially unveiled to the Old Trafford crowd at 16:30 BST, with supporters encouraged to take their seats early and give the new No.20 a warm welcome.

Manchester United continue to have Lewis Hall high on their list of left-back targets, and there appears to be encouraging information coming from the player's side. 👀

According to Ben Jacobs, Hall's camp sees a move to Old Trafford as a very strong fit.

🗣 “The signs from the [Lewis] Hall camp are he sees a very strong fit at Manchester United.”

Jacobs also explains why United remain confident about their chances of eventually signing the Newcastle defender, even if a deal cannot be reached during the current transfer window.

🗣 “This is where Manchester United have got confidence, as they did with Carlos Baleba 12 months ago, that if they can't move now, if they do choose to move in a year's time, and even if Hall signs a new deal first, the player has that buy-in.”

United's interest in Hall therefore appears to go beyond simply trying to sign him this summer.

The club could potentially wait and revisit the situation next year, confident that Hall himself would be open to the move if the opportunity arises.

Fiorentina have submitted their first official bid to Manchester United for Joshua Zirkzee as they look to bring the Dutch striker back to Italy. 🇳🇱🇮🇹

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Fiorentina's proposal is for a season-long loan with an option to buy. Zirkzee has already given his personal approval to the move, with the two clubs now negotiating the financial details while waiting for United's response.

Fabrizio Romano adds that Fiorentina's official bid is currently being assessed by Manchester United and Zirkzee's camp.

🔴 Fiorentina to cover Zirkzee's salary
🔴 Option to buy clause included in the agreement

Zirkzee is expected to make a decision on his future soon.

Meanwhile, Laurie Whitwell says a loan move is currently looking like the most likely outcome for the 25-year-old.

🗣 “Loan move feels like the most likely outcome. Juventus and Como had interest, but in the last day or so, Fiorentina have started to make offers and talks over what it might look like for a loan.”

He adds that an option rather than an obligation to buy is the more likely scenario, although he doesn't believe the deal is guaranteed yet.

🗣 Whitwell continued: “I don’t know if it’ll definitely go through, but sources are telling me it’s got a chance. There are other clubs still interested, Napoli are interested in making a move.”

With Benjamin Šeško and Bryan Mbeumo ahead of him in the attacking pecking order, Zirkzee's future at Old Trafford has increasingly become uncertain.
