The racist abuse directed at Esther following recent events in Morocco is completely unacceptable.

Both the Nigeria Football Federation and AFC Toronto have publicly condemned the abuse, reaffirming that racism has no place in football or society.

A frustrating start to WAFCON 2026. 💔

Earlier this week, reports suggested that Channel 4 had secured the UK rights to broadcast every match live and free to air, with both CAF and several media outlets announcing the agreement.

But as the tournament gets underway, fans have been left confused. There are currently no WAFCON fixtures listed across Channel 4’s schedules or streaming platforms, leaving supporters without a clear way to watch in the UK.

At the time of writing, neither Channel 4 nor CAF has publicly explained the apparent discrepancy, which is why so many fans and journalists are questioning what’s happened.

For a tournament that is fighting for greater visibility, this is incredibly disappointing. WAFCON deserves accessible coverage, not uncertainty just hours before kick off.

Several Nigeria players have alleged that money was stolen from their hotel rooms during the team’s stay in Morocco ahead of WAFCON.

Esther Okoronkwo claimed on social media that she had $700 taken from her wallet, while teammates Rashidat Ajibade, Joy Omewa (Joy) and Osinachi Ohale (Osi) also shared posts alleging cash had been stolen from them.

The reported amounts are:

* Joy Omewa: $120
* Osinachi Ohale: $100
* Halimatu Ayinde: $100

The players say the incidents happened while they were staying at their team hotel in Casablanca before the tournament.
