It's all about playing and having fun! And Albarracín lends itself perfectly for that. This boulder problem we made up ourselves. A long traverse close to the ground, from a vertical start with edges to a 5m long super steep finish which happened to have a double knee bar no hands rest on it! We all had a try and a laugh. *knee pads are key*
Needless to say we love Albarracín. We'll organise another guided trip here in the summer of 2027. Keep an eye out on our calendar on rockandsun.com

Landing practice is what we call it. Falling is taken care of by gravity. The thing to practice is the landing. In our step by step Landing practice, climbers get to practice landing about 40-50 times in a session, every time assessing their landing and aiming to improve it. Were they bending their knees enough and at the right time, were the balls of their feet touching the rock (instead of their toes), did they hold on to the rope with both hands (crucial as it prevents the head and neck from hitting the rock in an upside down fall), etc. The Landing practice is a fun exercise, which means that climbers will want to do it on a regular basis, rather than as a one-off leader fall from above the bolt which most people get asked to do on a falling practice session, and which most people find unpleasant. The aim of our approach is to make falling a part of every climbers' session, and consequently become good at landing, which then gives confidence in making those moves on the rock that we are not certain we're going to make. Of course there's a lot more to say about the mental aspect of climbers' aversion to falling. Yet we see that getting the physics right and reducing the chance of getting hurt in a fall has huge benefits.

Read the full article about falling/ landing practice on our blog (link in bio), and you can watch a step by step Landing practice session on our YouTube channel. Join one of our climbing holidays if you want to experience, practice and improve landing yourself!

We had a great time at the festival last weekend. gave a Learn to Lead sport climbing course, a Falling/Landing practice course. And on Saturday evening he was part of the panel debate with Team GB climber Zoe Peetermans and Tiffany Blount. It was super inspiring to hear how these three people got into climbing, and to hear them explain their appreciation of the different experiences climbing gives them. From indoor competitions, to outdoor route setting, to creating a community of climbers of colour. From over 40 years of climbing to being fairly new to the sport with 'only' 5 years experience. Perspectives from the UK and from the US. They almost couldn't be more different from each other, yet they all shared their love for this sport and lifestyle. And that was one of the main take aways from this festival: it was a very fun atmosphere, with loads of people enjoying being outdoors, camping, climbing, bouldering, walking and swimming. It was very special for the festival goers that for once they were not the minority but instead surrounded by other people of colour.
Hats off to the organisation!

Dylan on boulder problem 'Dos mandigas y un destino' (7a) in sector Entreaguas, Albarracín. He lost some layers of skin on his thigh and chest but thanks to a heel, a hand jam, a push down and great effort he topped out. Well done!

We've invested a lot in buying and resoling climbing shoes, so that when you come on a climbing holiday with Rock & Sun in the Costa Blanca you can try one of our good quality, stiff, comfortable pairs of climbing shoes. Try them for a few days or a week so you get used to them and can feel the difference in what you can stand on and how much support they give, so you can then make a well informed decision when buying your next rock climbing shoes.

Multi pitch training. In preparation for climbing the BIG route Espolón Central on the Puig Campana, which has been on Tommy's wish list for a while, today we practiced the multi pitch climbing skills and calls, as well as taking out pieces of trad gear, and abseiling with a prusik, on two 2- pitch routes at Sierra de Toix. The slicker we are as a team, the quicker we will be on the BIG day, leaving more time (and energy) for the long arduous walk off. We shouldn't need the abseiling practice we did today, but should things go wrong (such as a sudden change of weather, someone getting injured due to rockfall, or getting stuck behind a slower party), Tommy is already up to speed and ready to deal with unexpected circumstances.
Besides it being a practice day, it was a fun day in its own right. Four lovely pitches of rock climbing with amazing views from high up.

"I had a few days private coaching from Trevor on Kalymnos. It was exceptional. I’ve been climbing for many years but still learned a great deal from Trevor, particularly about movement, route-finding (yes, on sport climbs!) and red-point techniques. Trevor is a great person to hang out with and clearly a deep and original thinker about our sport. He also carried the 90m rope, which was a plus.
For anyone who hasn’t climbed much, or is worried about it, Trevor places huge emphasis on safety, without compromising the essential exciting nature of climbing. Probably the safest person I’ve ever climbed with.
Overall: a fantastic experience and one I will learn from."
Thank you Nigel!

Upcoming availability on Kalymnos: 10-17 October 2026
