Heatwave safety information:

We know people are understandably concerned about the heat tonight. We have spoken to British Cycling and discussed the race, venue and our plan for heat mitigation.

The races will be shorter than normal:
• Race 1 (U8-U12) race will now be 3 laps for the leader, less for lapped riders
• Race 2 (Women, Youth and Juvenile) will be 2 laps
• Race 3 (Open) will be 3 laps

There will be no open practice before Race 1 to reduce the time riders are out in the heat. There will be a single sighting lap at 6.15 for the U8, U10 and U12 riders, ending where we start their race by the BMX track. Parents please head there to make sure your children are ready to race and have hydration.

All riders must have at least 1 bottle on their bike to compete (or a hydration pack), and we recommend bringing an extra bottle to place trackside in case you run out mid race, we will have extra spare bidons trackside. If you have hydration tablets we recommend using them for both adults and children (caffeine-free for kids).

We also recommend drenching hair and cycling tops before the start of the race to help cool you as you ride.

There will be ride through hoses and sprinklers, plus water dumping stations on the start finish straight, as well as there being a decent breeze tonight to help keep everyone cool.

There will be a post race cooling station with more water and dump cups and additional hydration stations on site.

If you can bring ice packs, cold towels, cool boxes, water pistols etc., please do so.

When not racing people are advised to stay out of the sun and bring umbrellas for shade.

Most importantly, if you start feeling any heat-related symptoms, stop, hydrate, and if necessary seek help. If out on course, ask a marshal for help.

Anyone who feels unwell before, during or after the racing should seek attention from the St Johns Ambulance team who will be stationed near the cafe as usual.

Podiums
Don't disappear after your races as (after some last minute maths) we'll be doing series podiums and awarding the hand-crafted and much coveted Beastway trophies and prizes. We'll announce the podium schedule in the race manual, so look out for that coming soon.

Hope to see you all on Friday for the Beastway closing party of 2026! Friday nights won't be the same (until next time).

A few photos from the Open race at round 2. Not the sharpest as I’m not Geoff Waugh, they’re just iPhone shots and the light was going, but free to use.

We can’t wait to kick off the series tomorrow night, thanks to everyone who’s signed up - 114 riders will be lining up across the 3 races!

The course is damp after today’s rain but should dry quickly so don’t expect much mud, word is it’s riding very nicely - smooth and fast.

Watch out for the roadworks on Redbridge Lane East / Longwood Gardens if you’re coming from Redbridge roundabout - alternative routes recommended to avoid getting held up.

Hope it’s ok to post here Michael…

Entries close at midnight on Wednesday for Beastway Round 1 - Friday 5th June, U8-U12 race at 6.30pm, youth and women at 7.00pm, open race at 8.00pm.

A few course changes from last year’s series - more lumps and bumps, less flat, and the top pond loop is back in business.

We’ve got a new timing system so should be a lot quicker with results this year.

All the usual good stuff remains - music, food, free parking, Beastway swag, custom trophies, amazing weather (hopefully)…

Free up your Friday nights - 5th, 12th, 19th and series finale on the 26th June

Beastway 2026 Round 1 is under 2 weeks away - Friday 5th June!

We’ve tweaked the course for this year’s series adding more up, more down, and some extra spice to keep things interesting.

If you’re available to marshal we’d love to have some help - the series is entirely volunteer powered and can’t run without help, so if you’re not racing or can marshal before or after your race, please let us know in the comments below.

Entries close at midnight on the Wednesday before the race, so secure your place now!
