What does looking after yourself actually look like when you work shifts?
For someone working 9–5, wellbeing advice can sound simple.
Eat well.
Exercise.
Get enough sleep.
Make time for yourself.
But now imagine trying to do all of that when your working day starts at 7pm.
Your main meal happens during the night.
Your commute home is at 6am.
Your bedroom is bright outside.
Your family is starting their day while you’re trying to sleep.
And your next shift might start at a completely different time tomorrow.
This is why context matters.
Shift workers aren’t failing at wellbeing.
They’re navigating a working pattern that can make traditional wellbeing advice difficult to apply.
And that’s exactly the conversation we want to have.
What is the reality of wellbeing when you work shifts?
Because before we build solutions, we need to understand the problem.

So, what actually is Shift Worker Wellness?
It isn’t simply taking traditional workplace wellbeing and putting it in front of someone who works shifts.
It’s recognising that shift work can change the way people experience:
Sleep
Nutrition
Exercise
Recovery
Mental wellbeing
Energy and fatigue
Social and family life
Routine and consistency
And therefore, wellbeing support needs to change too.
At My Shift Planner x Arvra, we’re building our approach around one principle:
Context matters.
The right advice at the wrong time isn’t necessarily helpful.
A recommendation that works brilliantly for a 9–5 worker might be completely impractical for someone coming off a night shift.
MyShiftPlanner and Arvra are working together to build a more relevant, realistic, evidence-informed approach to shift worker wellbeing.
Not perfection.
Not another list of things people ‘should’ be doing.
Just practical support that recognises the reality of shift work.
Because wellbeing doesn’t happen in a 9–5 window.
And neither should wellbeing support.

Wellbeing advice has been designed for the 9–5 worker…
Wake up.
Work.
Exercise.
Eat.
Relax.
Sleep.
Now imagine your workday starts at 7pm.
Your ‘lunch’ is at 2am.
Your weekend is Tuesday and Wednesday.
Your sleep happens when everyone else is awake.
Wellbeing advice was built for a life you don’t live.
A huge amount of health advice assumes a relatively predictable routine. But millions of people don’t live that way.
For shift workers, the relationship between work, sleep, food, exercise, family and recovery can look completely different. And that matters. Because telling someone who works nights to ‘just prioritise sleep’ isn’t particularly useful if the advice doesn’t account for wwhen they need to sleep.
Telling someone working rotating shifts to ‘stick to a routine’ isn’t straightforward when their routine changes every few days. And telling someone who is exhausted after a night shift to ‘fit in a workout’ may completely miss the point. Good wellbeing support shouldn’t ask people to fit their lives around the advice. The advice should fit their lives.
That’s one of the reasons My Shift Planner and Arvra Wellness have partnered.
We’re starting with a simple belief:
Shift workers deserve wellbeing support designed for shift work.
And we’re only getting started.

Some people keep the world running while the rest of us sleep...
They’re working through the night in hospitals.
Responding to emergencies.
Delivering essential services.
Stocking shelves.
Keeping transport moving.
Caring for others.
And yet, when it comes to wellbeing, too much of the advice and support available is still designed around a 9–5 lifestyle.
Wake up at 7.
Eat at regular times.
Exercise after work.
Sleep at night.
Repeat.
But what happens when your “morning” starts at 7pm?
When your lunch break is at 2am?
When your weekend starts on a Tuesday?
When recovery has to happen around a rota?
Shift work requires a different approach to wellbeing.
That’s exactly the approach My Shift Planner + Arvra are building, together.
Together, we’re making wellbeing work around shift workers, starting with the hours they actually work. Combining MyShiftPlanner’s understanding of shift patterns with Arvra’s expert-led wellbeing support, we’re bringing practical, evidence-based guidance across sleep, nutrition, recovery, mental wellbeing and resilience.
This starts with listening. Understanding. Building better support for the people who keep society moving.
Shift workers have spent too long being overlooked. It’s time that changed.
This is just the beginning.
