I hear that.
But I have a question:
Whose health?
And whose research?
Because when we talk about being โopen-minded,โ we must also be honest about what the evidence already shows.
In the UK, research has found that ๐๐ฅ๐๐๐ค ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฐ๐ง ๐ฐ๐จ๐ฆ๐๐ง ๐๐ซ๐ ๐ฌ๐ข๐ ๐ง๐ข๐๐ข๐๐๐ง๐ญ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐ฅ๐๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐ฅ๐ข๐ค๐๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐ญ๐จ ๐๐ ๐จ๐๐๐๐ซ๐๐ ๐๐จ๐ซ๐ฆ๐จ๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ฉ๐ฅ๐๐๐๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ญ ๐๐ก๐๐ซ๐๐ฉ๐ฒ (๐๐๐) ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐๐ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ญ๐ก๐๐ข๐ซ ๐๐ก๐ข๐ญ๐ ๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐ญ๐ฌ, despite experiencing more severe and more prolonged menopausal symptoms.
Studies and reports have also highlighted that women from Black and Brown communities are more likely to:
Experience delays in diagnosis and support.
Report severe psychological symptoms such as anxiety, low mood, depression and brain fog.
Receive less culturally competent care within healthcare systems.
This is not about being closed-minded.
This is about being clear-eyed.
Because while conversations expand, the foundation they are built on is still not equitable.
So I will say this plainly:
Open-mindedness cannot mean overlooking disparity.
It cannot mean ignoring who is still being left out.
And it certainly cannot mean continuing to centre narratives that were never designed with Black and Brown women in mind.
If research is evolving โ then it must evolve ๐๐ช๐ฎ๐ข๐ญ๐๐๐ฅ๐ฒ. If conversations are expanding โ then they must expand ๐ข๐ง๐ญ๐๐ง๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฒ.
Because until Black and Brown women are fully represented in both research and healthcare, there is still work to do.

When Black and Brown women see someone who looks like them ๐ต๐ฉ๐ณ๐ช๐ท๐ช๐ฏ๐จ in , something shifts internally.
They stop bracing for decline.
They start imagining possibility.
For too long, menopause has been framed through a narrow lens โ one set of bodies, one cultural experience, one narrative of what this life stage should look like. That framing hasnโt just excluded women; it has shaped who feels seen, supported and worthy of care.
Today, Iโm sharing a caricature of me created with the prompt: โ๐๐ณ๐ฆ๐ข๐ต๐ฆ ๐ข ๐ค๐ข๐ณ๐ช๐ค๐ข๐ต๐ถ๐ณ๐ฆ ๐ฐ๐ง ๐ฎ๐ฆ ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐ธ๐ฐ๐ณ๐ฌ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ข๐ต ๐ ๐ฅ๐ฐ.โ
What was created wasnโt just an image โ it was representation.
Because representation is not cosmetic.
It is clinical.
It influences trust, help-seeking, engagement and health outcomes.
The Relentless Pause CIC exists to challenge dominant narratives and centre Black women in menopause education and advocacy โ not by asking us to adapt to systems that were never designed with us in mind but by building something intentionally different.
When representation changes, belief changes.
When belief changes, behaviour changes.
When behaviour changes, outcomes change.
And that is why this work is necessary.
Follow The Relentless Pause CIC page โ and join us on this journey.
We have created CPD-Accredited training: The Stigma of Menopause in Black Communities.
