US President Donald Trump has declared that the ceasefire between the US and Iran is “over”, after both sides exchanged attacks, threatening to derail a memorandum of understanding agreed last month.
Washington said it was responding to Iranian attacks on commercial vessels transiting through the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday.
Tehran responded to the US attacks overnight by launching waves of strikes on US military sites in Bahrain and Kuwait on Wednesday morning.

President Trump said the U.S. would likely launch more strikes against Iran Wednesday night, telling reporters at a NATO summit in Turkey "we hit them very hard last night," and "we're going to hit them hard again tonight."
Earlier Wednesday Trump said, "as far as I'm concerned, it's over," when asked about the ceasefire with Iran. After an exchange of strikes by both countries, Trump called Iran's leaders "sick" and declared it "a waste of time dealing with them."

U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth cancelled meetings with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz that had been scheduled for Wednesday to discuss a possible F-35 fighter jet sale to Türkiye, an Israeli source told Reuters.
The move comes amid Israeli concerns that the sale could upset the Middle East balance of power, with Netanyahu telling CNN that Türkiye has “aggressive aspirations.”
The discussions were also expected to cover Iran, as President Donald Trump declared the U.S.-Iran ceasefire “over” and signalled a willingness to sell F-35s to Ankara after lifting sanctions linked to Türkiye’s 2019 purchase of Russian S-400 missiles.
The cancellation highlights tensions between Washington, Jerusalem and Ankara over regional security and arms sales.
