We had our final Islamic counselling session this week Mehron Nisa Womens Centre. We ended the series of “building yourself” by discussing healing from an Islamic perspective. Alhamdulillah it has been a breath of fresh air this year to cover psychology and counselling from an Islamic perspective, and to highlight the flaws and problems with the Western counselling model.
We ended the session with a ‘letter to the self’. It was a way to review our growth over the past year and to see how we have changed in positive ways, no matter how big or small.
Next week will be the last session before we break for the summer, and we have a completely day session planned from what we usually do!

Reflections from our naseeha session
Nearly everything is halal, so why is the haram so desired?
Allah SWT says-
“And We said, “O Adam, dwell, you and your wife, in Paradise and eat therefrom in [ease and] abundance from wherever you will. But do not approach this tree, lest you be among the wrongdoers.”” (Surah al-Baqarah, verse 35)
Adam and Hawwa (as) were given everything of the Garden, yet the still went near the tree. Shaytan deceived them and caused them to slip.
This holds a significant lesson in our own lives, where the majority of things are allowed for us, yet we desire the things Allah forbade us from.
Think free mixed weddings with dancing with the opposite gender, the hijab loosening in the summer heat, disobeying the parents/husband etc.
And even if we stay away from the forbidden things of the Dunya, we glorify the haram.
Think non-alcoholic drinks in alcohol styled bottles, modest “fashion”, “dating” your spouse, and we also see that giving leadership to and reverence of Western Liberal frameworks and hopes of empowerment through them have become glorified by Muslims.
Let’s not fall from Shaytan’s tricks, Alhamdulillah the Quran is full of lessons and warnings for us to contemplate on. Alhamdulillah, our Deen, with its rules and laws, is our source of contentment and empowerment.

Alhamdulillah we have had some great sessions at the Mehron Nisa Women’s Centre since returning from the long break for Ramadan and term break.
We are focussing on a ‘building myself’ series for our Islamic Couselling sessions. We began the topic of narcissism last week and reflected on whether we had observed any narcissistic traits within ourselves. We highlighted how narcissism is a mental health framework created by Western psychology, which means that we may see certain traits within ourselves like pride, self admiration, lack of empathy or needing to be constantly validated and this doesn’t necessarily mean we have narcissistic traits, it could just be that we are battling with our ego (nafs).
We began a new arc for our naseeha sessions this week, with the story of creation of humans starting with Prophet Adam (as). This began when Allah decided to put a khaleefah (a vicegerent) on the earth. We discussed how being a vicegerent on earth entails us to be the forbearers in upholding Allah’s command on the earth and its various facets. We also spoke of the wisdom of Allah SWT choosing to create humans when He SWT had the angels already worshipping Him, and how Allah already acknowledged our human potential upon creating us, and that we also need to do this.

Alhamdulillah, we’ve shot up again! This is for grassroots services meeting multiple needs of Muslims in the community and not just fixtures and fittings and empty prayer halls.
Though mosque funding is needed for more prayer space for Jummah and Terawih, we still need on the ground solutions that cut through the red tape.
We are still £40k short, so we’re still swinging in search of a miracle. Who knows, a kind heart could rescue our services once and for all.
Jazākumullahu Khayran for support our ecosystem of grassroots work with an Ummatic vision.
Save our Islamic Centre, which facilitates an ecosystem of grassroots dawah and khidma.

Sisters Assemble!
We wanted to highlight a cause that is essential for Muslims sisters here in London.
We don’t want to lose the vital service this centre provides as a place of rehabilitation, reconnection and relief for our beloved sisters.
Please support this cause with all your might!
Donate, share and direct your sisters and friends to this safe space.
How often have you met a sister “going through some issues” while being ignored and left to face it alone, while you’re genuinely busy with family, work, and kids, that you feel guilty and powerless!
Now you can direct them to this safe haven and know they are receiving holistic support.
Please donate (yes, brothers too) and save the Women of our Ummah.
