Murieston Reds 1 – 3 Boroughmuir 2012 Purples 🔴

Another tough challenge met head-on by the Reds against a talented side a year older than ourselves.

The Joelle Murray League returned for Murieston with a difficult test against a Boroughmuir team who have won all but one of their games this season.

The Reds started with their usual incredible intensity, pressing aggressively from the first whistle and making life difficult for the visitors. That pressure was rewarded in the 3rd minute when Leaha raced through one-on-one and finished coolly to give Murieston an early lead.

The intensity continued throughout the first half and, in truth, only an outstanding performance from the Boroughmuir goalkeeper prevented the Reds from extending their advantage significantly. Several excellent saves kept the visitors in the game, including an incredible double save from the penalty spot.

Boroughmuir did eventually find an equaliser, and the teams went into half time level at 1–1.

The second half developed into a really physical and competitive battle, with both teams showing huge hunger and desire to win. The game remained finely balanced, but two individual moments of real quality from Boroughmuir ultimately proved the difference, including an unstoppable 30-yard free kick.

The coaches are incredibly proud of the way these girls continue to go toe-to-toe with older and some of the very best teams Tier 1 has to offer. Every time they step onto the pitch, they make sure the opposition know they have been involved in a proper competitive game.

Truthfully, we are a wee bit gutted not to have taken at least a point from this one, but that’s football.

Plenty to be proud of, plenty to learn from, and another performance that shows just how far this group continues to come. 🔴⚽

EDINBURGH CUP PLATE FINAL

After some fantastic whole team performances on Friday and Saturday to secure the plate play-off on Sunday, unfortunately it was not to be.

The girls faced an older, very physical team and were just unable to find their usual rhythm against such physically strong opponents. Although the girls themselves came away disappointed not to have secured some silverware, the coaches were incredibly proud of every single girl for their effort, commitment and teamwork over the whole tournament.

They represented Murieston fantastically all weekend.

Every difficult match and every disappointment is an opportunity to learn from and we know that this wonderful group of girls will come back stronger next time.

Thoughts now turn to the rest of our season and continuing to play with our heads held high.

EDINBURGH CUP 26

After two fantastic days of football from our girls - hard work, determination and most of all excellent team work 💪🏻 we find ourselves in the Plate Final tomorrow. ❤️💙🤍

Wallace Cup 2026 🏆🔴

The girls had a fantastic day today, although it says everything about their character and ambition that they were disappointed to finish as runners-up.

An early start on a beautiful Father's Day saw us make the trip through to Stirling University for the Wallace Cup.

This was our second year attending the tournament and, just like last year, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience and were blessed with what felt like the day of the Scottish summer, with the stunning Ochil Hills providing the perfect backdrop.

After a game on Thursday that the girls would rather forget, they dusted themselves down and got straight back to their best.

They started the tournament exactly as they meant to go on, dominating throughout the group stages. The girls finished three points clear at the top of their group with commanding performances in every game, winning all but one, where they were held to a draw.

Going into the final group match knowing that avoiding defeat would secure top spot, the girls faced Riverside, a team we know well and one that is always a closely contested opponent. Going a goal behind and then digging deep to find a late winner was a particular highlight of the day. Seeing the togetherness, determination and pure joy on the girls' faces at full time made that moment alone worthwhile as a coach.

Heading into the final unbeaten and facing a team we had already beaten in the group stages, we knew there was one final push required.

Unfortunately, the opposition created an early chance which was brilliantly saved by our goalkeeper, but the rebound took an awkward bounce and fell kindly for their attacker to convert.

To the girls' credit, they responded superbly. Murieston dominated large spells of the final, creating chance after chance and putting the opposition under sustained pressure.
However, a combination of the woodwork, some good goalkeeping and resolute defending meant it just wasn't to be on this occasion.

While the result was disappointing in the moment, we are immensely proud of this group and what they are building together. The girls continue to show incredible commitment, togetherness and resilience, and none of it would be possible without the fantastic support of our parents as well.

As we now break for the summer, we would like to wish everyone a well-earned rest and thank you for your continued support throughout the season.

We look forward to getting back at it and beginning the next chapter of our journey together. 🔴⚽

Bonnyrigg McCabe 2 – 0 Murieston Reds 🔴

A miserable summer's night in Bonnyrigg saw the Reds battle both the elements and the opposition as we played our final league fixture before the summer break.

The first half started well, with Murieston showing their usual intensity, pressing high and dominating large spells of the game. The girls controlled much of the play and when the teams went in level at 0-0, the message at half time was simple, keep doing the same things and the result should come.

Unfortunately, the second half started in the worst possible fashion. A brief lapse in concentration gifted the opposition an opportunity, and they were clinical enough to take it and go 1-0 ahead.

After that, the girls never quite managed to recover their rhythm. There was still more than enough time left in the game to get back into it, but it wasn't to be.

The truth is these girls have set incredibly high standards for themselves over the course of the season, and unfortunately this was a spell of football where those standards weren't quite on show.

The best players, teams and coaches all have off days, and this one was ours.

The important thing now is to learn from it, put it behind us and immediately turn our attention to the next challenge as we look forward to competing in the Wallace Cup on Sunday.
