Well done to our men’s footballers who brought home another piece of silverware for the club this season after a hard fought win over St Lawrences in the Junior Cup Final in Manchester. 👏
It was a sweltering hot morning and a slow start from the lads meant Lawrence’s went into the water break a point to the good. From then though the Tones started taking some of the chances they created with captain Ethan O’Kane leading from the front.
The half time score was 0-4 to 0-2 to the Tones.
The second half was a different game, action packed and end to end. An O’Kane goal put a bit of a gap between the teams but the home side fought back and were soon awarded a disputable penalty. Keeper Michael Canavan made a great save from the spot kick and this was followed up by a number of top class class range saves to keep the Tones in front.
The Tones middle 8 battled well throughout the game, with Colum Lynch having a strong game at 11 and Mark Canavan helped swing the midfield battle with a brilliant second half display. PJ Casey and Eoin McWilliams got the scores their play deserved towards the end, and a McWilliams goal helped seal the game and the cup.
Final Score
Tones 2-7
St Lawrence’s 0-7
Scorers
E O’Kane 1-4
E McWilliams 1-1
PJ Casey 0-1
C McCaffrey 0-1

Well done to our men’s footballers who got back to winning ways against local rivals John Mitchels.
The Tones had a great start to the game with scores from Thomas Reilly and captain Matthew Martin putting the boys into a commanding 5 point lead. However the home side kept pushing and some careless play allowed them back in the game and they went into the break a point ahead.
The Tones started the second half well and a Thomas Reilly goal put the lads into the lead again. A nip and tuck encounter threatened to boil over at some stages but the lads kept pushing. Another Reilly goal (bringing his total to an outstanding 2-6) and an Eoin Cleary point opened a gap. A goal line clearance from Chris Boyle kept the clean sheet and sealed the victory
Tones 2-8
John Mitchels 0-10

Another tough defeat in Manchester for our men’s footballers versus St Peters.
A game played in sweltering heat started badly for the Tones with 3 quickfire goals for the home side, and the lads quickly found themselves 12 points behind. After the first water break tho there were some signs of life with goals from Frank O’Grady and Ruairi O’Connor-Harte keeping the Tones in the game. However a 4th St Peter’s goal followed and could have been worse if not for a few good saves from stand in goalkeeper Shea Doherty.
The second half was a different story though. Jack Lynch and Colyn Power put in incredible performances driving the team forward, and scores from Matthew Martin, Ethan O’Kane, Michael McKenna, O’Connor-Harte, Lynch, Power and another goal from Brett Clydesdale kept eating into the deficit. However with the pressure building the lads just ran out of time and on the wrong side of the result in a very entertaining game of football.
St Peters 4-12
Tones 3-11
Training continues this week on Tuesday at 7.30pm, followed by a home game on Thursday versus Na Mic Tire and then on Sunday, a game away to John Mitchels
