So today I got back in the saddle for the first time in a good few years and I had the BEST time! The gorgeous Casper(big chunky Clydie cross) was my horse for the ride and he and the lovely ladies from Crowwood Riding School looked after me perfectly π
I was a little apprehensive on the drive over but from the moment I got out the car they went out of their way to put me at ease. I got to help bring the horses in (where Casper weighed me up by testing to see how I'd react to him not wanting to walk up the field π
), groom and tack up with them before we headed out for a wonderful 2 and a bit hour ride around the beautiful Scottish countryside.
They let me find my feet, or should that be seat? With a nice steady trundle before having our first trot (which was a bit wobbly to start with but once my hips adjusted we were all good). Up and down hills, admiring the views and varied greenery and birds. Handled a small spook just fine, dodging overgrown bushes, climbed up a big bank through bushes and trees which Casper took in his stride half trotting half cantering and even had a proper blast of canter up another hill.
About half way round I got brave enough to get my phone out whilst moving so got a couple videos in walk and by the time we were heading back I felt like I'd never been away from it.
I've not stopped grinning and can't wait for my next ride (a bit closer to home) in just over a week π
There's life in the old horse gal yet!
