Help Kids Talk is a community wide initiative based in Lisburn, Northern Ireland. It is led by Early Intervention Lisburn and the South Eastern HSC Trust and funded by Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council. It was officially launched in March 2020 after a 7 year journey. The initiative aims to:
•Help children and young people be the best they can be.

Love these tips from Mrs Speechie P for encouraging children to use more words at home. We can all fall into the trap of asking our children lots of questions or getting them to label items. It is much more beneficial and helpful to our children if we use the tips from the list of do’s – modelling, extending, waiting, repeating and responding.

What do we mean when we say “add some words”? Here are some examples of how you can add 1-2 words to what your child says to help them begin using more words

If your child points to something, name it or describe it. As your child gets older you can add more descriptive words to the conversation.
When you are out and about with your children, talk to them and add words to what they say – this is a great way of building their communication skills. In this video, the parents are using a walk as a chance to name what they see & add to what their little one says.
